Les Miles On Leonard Fournette "Expectations Are Unrealistic"

roy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
Today during the SEC Coaches Teleconference, LSU head coach Les Miles commented on Leonard Fournette’s performance on Saturday against Wisconsin and wants to lower the hype and expectations around the highly touted freshman. Per CBS Sports:
quote:

“He did great,” Miles told reporters. “First games are not to be comparable to his 30th game, Expectations are unrealistic. Can you imagine that somebody would comment on how you played your first game as a true freshman? To say it was anything other than exactly what we needed – this is a mistake.”

Against Wisconsin, Fournette ran the ball eight times for 18 yards and returned five kicks for 117 yards.

14 Carries, 73 yds, 0 TD, 5.2 yd/carry, long 23 yds. 1 reception -2 yds. Those stats from the first game of the greatest Tiger RB I have seen in my lifetime. He had more carries with less of a supporting cast than LF had but these stats were nothing to really excite the Tiger faithful about what was to come the next several years. LF will be good, let him learn from the senior leadership. I am sure Les wants to give Hilliard an opportunity to earn a spot on a NFL team next year so I fully expect Hilliard to get a bulk of the carries, but next year watch out hopefully LF can put up similar numbers to the first game of the sophomore season of the previous listed RB.
21 Carries, 246 yds, 2 TD, 11.7 yds/carry, long of 80 yds, 1 reception, 8 yds, 4 punt return, 106 yds, long 78 yds, 1 TD, 1 kick return, 16 yds.

Watching the game again wisoncsin took a lot of bad angles just to make sure they tackled him. He could've gonna 8 for 120 just as easily as he went 8 for 18. He was getting stuffed in the backfield, which isn't his Fault.

As long as he keeps his head about him, he will be prolific. One game does not define a career. For Christ's sake, he's 18 years old and just started out. All we've seen him do is run the ball 8 times. He made some mistakes. That's bound to happen. Just let him grow up a bit and he'll be fine.

He will be just fine. Took 3 quarters of pounding the rock to soften that stout Wisconsin front 7. For someone like LF who has dominated his whole life, it was undoubtedly tough on him, but it will definitely light a fire. Dominance is coming

The best thing that could have happened to the guy did. The power back senior ended up pounding out the big runs late in the game after he and LF softened them up earlier. The guy is a passing threat and blocks well for a freshman which means that they won't be keying on him like they did at first. I fully expect LF to have a very memorable career at LSU.

Leonard Fournette is a Beast!! If Miles give that Kid 8 carries again, I'm done with LSU.

Morons. No blocking and flubbed screen passes and sweep tosses will keep anyone from producing. Without he ten yard loss on the botched toss, he averaged 4 yards a carry. But you're right. They gave a freshman eight carries, attempted to pass it to him multiple times and put him on kick returns because he sucks.

A lot of people were comparing him to Adrian Peterson... he didn't look like AP in that first game.

Then Miles shouldn't have compared Fournette to Michael Jordan. Can't hype him up then say "expectations are unrealistic". That's contradictory.

Any one that expected LF to do more than he did as a true freshman in his first game doesn't watch much college football.
