Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced at SEC Media Days Monday that defensive end Carl Lawson had surgery for a torn ACL in May. Per CBSSports.com:

Malzahn says he's hopeful that Lawson will recover before the end of the season, but odds are that's not the case. Lawson is likely going to miss the entire 2014 season, which would be bad news for the Auburn defense.

Lawson was a five-star recruit in Auburn's 2013 recruiting class, and he didn't wait long to have an impact for the Tigers. As a freshman in 2013 Lawson finished the year with only 20 tackles, but 7.5 of them were for loss, and four were sacks. He also had seven quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles.
Big loss for Auburn.

No - was not clear before that it was a torn ACL. Word was it was a bruise at first then "more serious than that."
