Tyrann Mathieu Talks About Leonard Fournette

Former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu was at "The Opening" Nike camp this week and had a chance to talk about incoming LSU freshmen Leonard Fournette. Here is some of what he had to say, per ESPN:

"I grew up with him," Mathieu said. "I know his dad real well. He could never play park ball, he was always bigger than everybody else. So the parents would always say he's too big, they would write letters to the state. He couldn't play football so he always had to play what we called all-star football. They travel the state and play football."

It's not just that Fournette was big, but it was his natural strength that impressed Mathieu.

"I knew he was a grown man when I was in the 12th grade and he was in the 8th grade, he was always bigger than me and he (punched me in the chest) and it hurt a little bit. I didn't know if he was playing or serious because it hurt that bad. He has always been strong,"

"I think he's hungry. I think he has what I didn't have, he has a great support system already. They've always been a great support system for him. (He believes in himself and the people around him believe in him. The thing is, he can't get down. I had great years at LSU, but every time I played Alabama I wasn't the same guy. So you're going to have bad games but you just can't down about it."

Fournette will be an absolute animal. Only problem I had with TM7 was continuing to fail the drug tests. Almost every D1 athlete smokes or will smoke during their college career but most will stop after that first failed test or the first close call. He just didn't know when to stop and I'm glad he's doing well and got another chance.

When we break down TM's story of his time at LSU, his time with Patrick Peterson and dad, and his rookie season, we prove that the LSU program is a completely unique and elite NCAA FB program unlike any other in the history of the NCAA.

More importantly in this case, we also prove that TM, as a young man, was absolutely worth every extra chance for redemption. Every time he suits up for the Cardinals is a success story that every single NCAA prospect should know. Hopefully a few young prospects will learn from his mistakes before they make them.

The fact that he gives his time and shares his story like he does is another reason why the Honey Badger should be respected for who he is today as opposed to the ignorance that some "haters" still trying to spew about his time at LSU.

TM7 seems like a great guy who made some stupid mistakes. I wish things could have worked out differently with him in BR, but it looks like he may have turned his life around. Good for him. As for LF, August 30 can't get here soon enough! I think he will be one the greats once his college career is over with.
