LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones announced on Tuesday that former NBA head coach Eric Musselman will join the Tigers coaching staff as associate coach.

Musselman, 49, spent the past two seasons on the Arizona State coaching staff and was was a head coach in the NBA with the of Golden State Warriors from 2002-04 and the Sacramento Kings in 2006-07. He finished second in NBA Coach of the Year voting during the 2002-03 season.

Here is what Coach Jones had to say about Musselman per LSUSports.net:
quote:

“We are excited about the addition of coach Eric Musselman,” said coach Jones. “He brings a wealth of NBA and college experience that will be beneficial as we strive to continue to take LSU Basketball to new heights. He will be involved in all aspects of our program.”
Her is what Musselman had to say:
quote:

“I really am excited to join the LSU family, a place that has such a storied athletic program, and help Coach Jones and the staff continue to make strides,” said Musselman. “It will be challenging to learn about another great conference as the SEC. Anytime you can join a program that has a Final Four appearance in the past decade and 20 NCAA Tournaments overall, you know great things can happen again. In talking with Coach Jones, I am excited to get to work and help make it happen.”

Why would a former NBA Head Coach take such a lowly position at a university...especially a school where basketball is the 3rd sport?

Something just doesn't add up.

I think it's a great hire; just wondering what caused such a fall.
