ESPN is reporting that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will undergo ankle surgery on Wednesday. The surgery will repair an issue that has lingered since the end of the season.

The surgery will be performed by team physician Robert Anderson, and the recovery is expected to take four months, which means Newton will be back in time for training camp in late July.

Team officials said Newton is expected to miss time in minicamps in late May and June.
Newton nicked his ankle in Week 16, but played the following 2 games of the Panthers season without noticeable issue.
