Two players are being investigated after getting ejected for targeting a referee with a brutal hit during Marble Falls (Texas) vs John Jay High of San Antonio's game Friday night...

quote:

Prior to the play where the individuals targeted the referee with the hits, John Jay players were ejected on separate plays, the San Antonio Express News reports. The reason for taking out the referee on the ensuing play is unclear. The players were immediately ejected for the blindside hit, and the resulting penalties helped Marble Falls extend their possession and effectively run out the clock for the game.

Northside ISD and the University Interscholastic League are investigating the incident.

“I’ve coached 14 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” Marble Falls’ coach told the Express News.

"That's dumb. You want to punish all of the other kids on the team because of a few idiots?"

I'd be willing to bet that a coach ordered that. If the right heads don't roll, then, yes, shut it down.

"Yeah, that program wouldn't play another game this year."

Those kids are done with football. Smart money says they'll likely be arrested. I wonder if they realized beforehand that being on a football field in the middle of a game doesn't actually protect them if someone wants to press charges? Given how seriously they could have injured the ref, I'd be surprised if they don't show up in court.

Yeah, that program wouldn't play another game this year.

And the HC wouldn't have a job
