Yeah. I went back after work to buy every one they had left. I thought about it and knew I could unload them. Should have never posted that here there were none left....

re: Is a Full Freezer More Energy Efficient Than an Empty Freezer?
Posted by KG6 on 4/17 at 1:48 pm
If it's never opened, probably not a whole lot of difference. But a freezer that is opened regularly, full freezer definitely is more effecienct. The mass of food inside will hold the temperature better than the air when the doors are open and all the heat gets in....

Just stopped at Academy for lunch. They had Shimano Sustain 2500FG spinning reels listed at $99. I can't find them for less than $250 anywhere on line. I'm not super familiar with them, is there some model out there that is built shitty :dunno:. I got two. Seems like there may have been a pric...

Fished Cocodrie last friday. Early in the morning it wasn't that bad. Water wasn't terrible and wind wasn't an issue. By 11, not so fun. Plan on going down tomorrow afternoon and Saturday morning. I'm just happy to be on the water right now, not expecting great conditions for a while....

re: Live comfortably on $55,000 per year?
Posted by KG6 on 4/17 at 9:20 am
When you first graduate, your idea of spending money is the same as when you were a college student. Living off of $300-$500 spending cash was nothing for me. If you keep up that lifestyle for a few years, you can save up a good bit. Once you start spending money though, it's a bitch to stop and ...

No, my situation was not normal at all. But I did save that much cash in addition to what was in savings. I was lucky enough to live at my parent's for a while, because I travelled constantly my first year and never needed a home. That's why I didn't have rent. But I was able to eat out all ...

I had 80k in the bank when I graduated school, and I saved up the 12k cash. I made closer to 75k by the end of year two (bonuses, car allowances start getting added). I don't think that 12k is smart for anyone, even myself . But it didn't kill me and we're doing alright. ...

I graduated with a base salary just above that (although I did have a few bonuses and a car allowance). In my first two years, I was able to save enough to buy a new truck, a 12k ring, and about 40k to put a down payment on a house. I didn't have to pay rent or utilities, so that helped a ton, but...

re: $55k Spinoff: Are you where you thought you'd be in life?
Posted by KG6 on 4/17 at 7:56 am
I'm 28, and doing a little better financially than I was shooting for. I started out around the 55k mark out of school, so according to some in the other thread, I'm lucky to have survived on that income. So there's that. Work for the same company I started with, but moved out of the engineering ...

Crate training does wonders for someone with a career that doesn't allow them to be with their dog constantly. You just have to give the dog a lot of attention when you're home. My dog is in the crate from 8-5 and gets taken out for lunch most days. No problems. Some days I can't make it home for lu...

My uncle has gotten a new Suburaban about every 4 years for as long as I can remember. He's had at least 6 that I can remember off the top of my head.
Is there any reason to buy an SUV
I'm not saying there isn't a reason to own a truck, but I seriously doubt 50% of the people who have them need them. SUV's are probably a more useful vehicle to most people. I went from a truck to a Tahoe and I don't know if I've had to borrow a ...

I think Tahoe prices are CRAZY. When I was almost finished school, I seriously considered getting an LS Tahoe. This was around 07-08. I know that I found the base price to be under 30k. I ended up getting a truck instead. Two years ago I decided to get an SUV. Base price of the Tahoe was right ...

I don't know what the ltz tahoe's initial price tag was, but I know the base model was around around 28k in 2007, so I'd estimate the LTZ was around 50k loaded. The land cruiser was closer to 60k. Seems like the value depreciates the same to me. This is coming from someone who owns a tahoe and ...

I've caught snapper pretty close out of grand isle. Pass up the first rigs you see from the beach and hit the ones you can see on the horizon from there. I think it was like 60-80 ft water depth there. Did it in a 22' boston whaler, no gps. I don't think I could do that now that I'm older ...

I'm not trying to sound like a billy-badass. I just think people let their kids do things that I would consider dangerous and then they think that others should be responsible for it. I would die if I hurt a kid, but at the same time, that doesn't make me automatically at fault. Kids often do stu...
