re: Lafayette Getting a Mellow Mushroom
Posted by bdevill on 6/9 at 2:37 pm
I don't see Mellow Mushroom making it in the long term. MM pizza is hit or miss and when it's a miss, it's terrible. Too many good pizza places with market loyalty, continually failing location and beer that's available at Philippe's or Marcello's. If Mellow Mushroom was serious about Lafayette...

I just got back from NYC and spent some time (basically the better part of 2 days) in Mario Batali's "Eataly" on 24th and Broadway. The pizza is among the best I've had in New York or anywhere else.. Great cheese selections, breads, pasta, meats.. Just incredible. I also enjoyed browsing their...

re: Rouse's in Baton Rouge
Posted by bdevill on 5/6 at 9:25 am
I like the prepared foods at Rouse's in Lafayette better than the hot food bar at Whole Foods in Baton Rouge. I find a maximum of a third of the hot bar items edible at WF. Also, the quality of the produce I've found to be very good, especially the shrooms. If nothing more, Rouse's will provi...

Baked Potatoes
Posted by bdevill on 1/17 at 12:56 pm

re: Cooking memories from your childhood that inspired you to cook. What are they?
Posted by bdevill on 1/13 at 10:29 am
Growing up in the Cajun Heartland, our dads went to "Suppers" where the men would cook at one of their camps or kitchens at a rice dryer or other place of business. That's where it all went down: the deals were made and politics discussed over rich suppers with meat, rice and gravy and heavy drin...

This is the best meatloaf recipe I've come across..It's from 1770 House in East Hampton, NY. It's labor intensive. The onions and veggies are cooked beforehand so you're not biting into a crisp piece of onion. The combination of meats make the meatloaf very moist. The au jus is light and clear.. ver...
