re: So the Oscar Ratings Sucked Big Balls, Here's Why
Posted by DallasTiger11 on 2/24 at 2:48 pm
Your argument, I believe, is that the Oscars should honor films you like, which runs towards mediocre big budget summer blockbusters. That's a horrible idea. It would render the awards meaningless. Though I do think you can honor great films while also considering public tastes. I think popul...
the movies are made to win awards, not to tell the best story.
You have no clue what you're talking about. There is not a single writer worth a damn in Hollywood that starts the script saying to themselves "I'm only writing this to win an Oscar. frick telling a good story." Movie...

You do know that last year the ratings were huge right? This isn't some disturbing trend.
The majority of your television audience hates these fricking movies because they know why they were made to begin with. I think it splits and the split could go either way. If I had to guess I'd go with Birdman as BP and Linklater as Director. If there is a sweep it will be Birdman....
Yep, CGI has come a looong way. Those Star Wars prequels were absolutely terrible to look at. Hurt-your-eyes bad.
Which makes 2001 all the more impressive. Still looks amazing today....

re: 12 Hour Layover In LA, What To Do

I would stay in the Westside area and not go to Hollywood or DTLA, unless you have a strong interest to see Hollywood. Tons of great places in Venice or Santa Monica and you can hang out on the beach. I would definitely not rent a car. Uber is much less stressful and more convenient, but you wi...

Minus the 100 Bobby's we've had. But in all seriousness he struck gold with Kiernan Shipka and I doubt he had plans to make her such a major character until he saw what she could do as she aged. She is definitely in the running for GOAT child TV character depending on this season....

Mad Men S7B Promotional Photos Released (SPOILERS)

I assume OP is from/lives in the South. I feel like single in your 40s is much harder there. If you continue to struggle you might consider moving to a bigger city where being older and single is much more common. I think every single one of my Southern friends was married at 25....

You went to a Linklater film expecting something remarkable to happen? Making one movie over the course of a decade is not a "gimmick" either. It's quite a feat and one that will be discussed for a long time....
