Romo, Bryant, Murray owners and those playing against Davis or the 49ers Defense. Figured I'd keep it all in one place....

Used Car Purchase Fees
Posted by Joshjrn on 8/18 at 7:56 pm
I currently plan to purchase a used car (Honda Accord, though I doubt that matters) at the end of the year. I was wondering if anyone could give me definitive information concerning which fees a dealer might charge are mandatory (and what are the norms/maximums), which are negotiable, and which are ...

Best Vietnamese in Baton Rouge
Posted by Joshjrn on 8/1 at 3:16 pm
I ran a search and the most recent threads on the subject were from early 2013. Considering how hit or miss Vietnamese tends to be, I figured I'd ask for a refresh. If you want to delineate between favorite pho and favorite other than pho, feel free. ...

Parents opened card...
Posted by Joshjrn on 3/20 at 9:59 pm
Like many people, my parents added me to a credit card when I was relatively young to start building my credit. Also like many people, my parents proceeded to nearly max it out over the years. So, I'm in a bit of a quandary. On the one hand, it is increasing my credit age. On the other, it is throwi...

Ultimate Rewards Point Transfers
Posted by Joshjrn on 2/2 at 5:23 pm
I'm starting to delve into the world of Chase Sapphire Preferred UR point usage. In my research, I'm seeing quite a bit of ink being spilled over transferring points to partner airlines instead of booking directly through UR. First and foremost, the process of manually checking each rewards program ...

Honda Vehicle Exchange Program
Posted by Joshjrn on 9/3 at 2:22 pm
I recently had some recall work done at Team, which apparently put me on their radar. Today, I received a personalized mailout saying that, "due to a shortage of reliable pre-owned blah blah blah" my car is eligible for this program. They are offering 110% of NADA book value on my car, .9% APR, etc....

Maximizing Chase Freedom Quarterly Bonus Fall 2013?
Posted by Joshjrn on 8/18 at 11:58 am
As I don't purchase nearly enough gas to max out the $1,500 quarterly bonus, I started doing research into how to maximize it in other ways. The most common seems to be buying gift cards at gas stations. However, that seems to be easier said than done. To pull it off, you need to meet three requirem...

Louisiana Primary Still Closed?
Posted by Joshjrn on 6/29 at 11:03 am
I remember during the last presidential cycle several posters mentioning that Louisiana was planning on moving away from a closed primary system to an open, or at least semi-closed, system. Was that just smoke, did it die somewhere along the way, or is it still in the process of happening? I haven't...

Best places in BR for live music
Posted by Joshjrn on 1/10 at 5:12 pm
Girlfriend and I were trying to brainstorm a list of places to check out good live music, so I figured I would enlist the FDB for help. Could be a restaurant, bar, or some combination thereof. Not really looking for "venues" with what Baton Rouge would call headliners (Varsity, etc), but more places...

Favorite inexpensive mixing cognac
Posted by Joshjrn on 12/13 at 8:20 pm
I typically drink Pierre Ferrand Reserve when I'm enjoying cognac neat, but I've recently begun enjoying a cognac grandfather (or variant of the French Connection, depending who you ask. Roughly 1 part Amaretto, 2 parts cognac) so I was wondering what's a nice, inexpensive cognac I could use for mix...

American Funds - Retirement Advice

I'm being offered a menu of American Funds from my employer for my retirement matching. I have a decent amount of experience (for a layman) in stocks and mutual funds for short to medium term investing, but I feel like I'm wading into uncharted water with this. I'm in my mid 20's, short term bear, m...

Posted by Joshjrn on 9/8 at 1:41 pm
I know this is a rather mundane question, but how are the seatbacks (sec 301, specifically) numbered, i.e. facing the section right to left, etc? I've been going to games for seven years as a student, but this is my first time in the big-boy seats ...

I was wondering how I can watch Ligue 1, particularly Olympique Lyonnais, either on TV or online. I ran a search but couldn't find anything definitive, though a sports channel for Al Jazeera was rumored, which I seriously doubt I can get access to  I live in Baton Rouge and have Cox. ...
