| Interesting Poll on ESPN regarding ejection for a hit to the head Posted by juice4lsu Here is the poll  on 2/14 at 10:11 pmNot to make this political, but I think many fans would agree that with what is happening in the NFL, some might say we are seeing the "wussification" of football. This poll was interesting because it seems to directly fall in line with political leanings. More government heavy states tend to believe the "state" should create more rules to govern our lives or the game. | I see where you're going. But I don't think it's all about political leanings I think a lot of the people in the blue states just really aren't that educated when it comes to football. If you show someone a poll like this that knows very little about football then I could understand why they would vote the way that they did. | And on the flip side of the coin the states that are the most extreme on favoring it being a bad idea are notoriously the shittiest states Louisiana - most of you are from there. You know it sucks West Virginia - Inbred rednecks Montana - Only one area code in a state that is geographically huge. | I am not saying it is political leanings. I am more saying it is a matter of personal responsibility. Obviously, there is inherent risk to the game of football. That is why it is entertaining. Similar to the days of gladiators; a very primal fascination. But in the era of "too big to fail" and "someone should pay for my kid, my food, my house." Big Brother needs to watch over us and help...that mentality is the idea that the authority is the answer. The thought that we need protection from ourselves. The Nanny State mentality. | In 1906, after several on-field deaths, Teddy Roosevelt gave the colleges an ultimatum: Make the game safer or no more football. I guess a lot of yall would consider that nanny state interference as well. Football is a great game. It's not supposed to be gladiatorial combat, and while there's risk, people shouldn't leave the game with permanent disability except in rare circumstances. I wonder how many who play the pussification card actually played the game beyond pee wee level. I was just an average HS player and one shoulder is lopsided because of an old injury. My brother played in HS and a little bit of college, and he has the beginnings of arthritis. I can't imagine what these guys who play long term have to go through. Make football safer. Fans who enjoy the game for its own sake will adjust. The ones who watch it for some vicarious thrill because they were too chicken shite to put themselves on the line at some point, maybe not. The protective gear largely eliminated those but certainly does not protect the player from chronic injuries (CTE or arthritis for example). To some extent the desire to knock someone senseless has become a part of the American game of football and comparing this sport with a similar sport may not be a fair comparison because of cultural differences ingrained in the sport.
