| I'm not trying to start a legal debate, but I can tell you that in Orleans Parish you will get arrested for carrying AT a parade. I think it is within 1,000' of a parade route, but I'm not positive about the distance. Ronal Serpas was on the local news last week explaining NOPD's interpretation of the spirit, if not necessarily the letter, of the law. Even if you eventually get charges dismissed, you don't want to spend the evening at OPP. It's not a happy place. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by TigerOnThe Hill on 2/7 at 12:14 am to White Roach You make good point about possible local exceptions to the statewide concealed carry laws. I think the main concern is the interpretation of that segment of the cc laws of LA as it pertains to the state in general. OTOH, it's understood that some jurisdictions may have more strict laws (like Orleans Parish) that would override the general laws for cc in LA. I can asure you that for a number of reasons, I won't be attending any Mardi Gras parades in Orleans Parish. This post was edited on 2/7 at 12:16 am Reply Back to Top |
quote: fricking bitch... What's the policy here about hoping someone gets hit by a bus and/or a couple of vehicles? As for the topic... My opinion would be to not carry. As unfortunate as it is, the lack of clarity of the law would be more than enough for NOPD to charge you. Losing the ability to legally CC would be awful. I'd carry an easily accessible knife and pray for the best. You know the drill.. Be aware of your surroundings. stay with groups of people. Also, your wallet and phone aren't worth losing your life over. As much as I'd like to feed a mugger some Speer Gold Dots, if I can hand over my wallet, and my wife is safe, then so be it. quote: FWIW, what the police determine is the interpretation of the law doesn't matter. And Ron Serpas' opinion of the law doesn't matter. Serpas is not the judge. Now, that being said, they most likely WILL arrest you, but it's just an arrest. Like the police like to say, "let the judge figure it out." Reply Back to Top |

| I don't think CC at a parade is a wise idea, if you are taking your family where you feel a gun is needed for protection, you probably shouldn't be taking them there. 101 Reply Back to Top |
| I'd carry some Freeze +P and fog a circumference if I got scared. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
