| re: CC at parades I do it, my instructor told me that you have to be a participant of the parade to not be able to carry. There's definitely some grey areas the way that law reads. Reply Back to Top |
| Carrying a concealed weapon in Orleans Parish regardless of whether you have a permit or not during a designated parade event and in the designated parade route is an instant Felony possession of a firearm. I wouldn't recommend carrying because Orleans Parish is known to arrest people just for revenue. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I thought I saw, they made several arrests for this, during the weekend of parades held in New Orleans the weekend before the Super Bowl. I'm almost positive the NOPD and Orleans DA see the law as applying to anyone AT a parade. Good luck with a defense trying to argue otherwise based on the letter of the law, I suppose. | The laws reads "in" the parade. Just like "in" a courthouse or "in" a sheriff's office. I would interpret that as being good to go for carrying while standing on the sidelines watching a parade pass. How it is (or has been) interpreted I do not know. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I may be an over-thinker, but when you have that many people drinking, stupid shite can happen. I've never gotten in fights or anything close to that, but It's not out of the realm of possibility that some drunkard could try and start something through no fault of my own. If police get involved, I don't want to be in that position. This post was edited on 2/6 at 3:36 pm Reply Back to Top |
quote: I'll be attending a daytime parade with small children. I doubt that I would need to pull a gun on anyone at noon, but like the OP said, I don't like the idea of walking down those side streets back to the car with no defense other than a knife and pepper spray. I can say with certainty though that even if I'm carrying, I'm not pulling the gun over a drunk wanting to fight me. We all know that it would be worth the charge if we used the concealed gun to save a life. The real worry is getting spotted somehow. Then you'd be facing a felony charge for no good reason. The "Orleans Parish" will prosecute even though the law says "in a parade" pisses me off to no end. I like living in the country for a reason. Reply Back to Top |
quote: This is how I interpret it too. So what is the official "area" of the parade if you're not supposed to carry "at" a parade? Is it a mile radius? Is it 1000 feet? There are too many questions. If you're simply going to be on public property next to the parade, then go ahead and carry. Concealed means concealed. If you're in the parade, leave the gun in your truck and go get shitfaced. | wow, this should end well. I'd suggest you go to the FQ side of Canal for Endymion. Always a bunch of little shits over there that might need a lesson from a CC badass. Reply Back to Top |

quote: I'm not saying I will pull the gun on a drunk. I'm just saying if the police get involved and for some reason search me, even though I wasn't really causing any drama, I don't want to be found with a gun illegally. It's the same reason I understand why you shouldn't carry at a bar. Stupid situations are more likely happen even when you are trying to stay away from them (which should always be the case when carrying). But, in the case of a parade, I will be walking places that I would rather have my gun. This post was edited on 2/6 at 4:34 pm Reply Back to Top |

quote: remember you have to declare you have a gun whenever you are approached by a LEO when they are in the line of their job, so so if you witness something or are questioned about anything you would have to declare and then the can of worms is opened Reply Back to Top |

| I have no dog in this fight, but do you think criminals care that parades are gun free zones? Reply Back to Top |
quote:If you can't attend a parade safely without breaking the law and jeopardizing your freedom to CC then don't go. Even if legal I'm not sure Id carry in a crowd where people shoving and snatching for beads could cause me to possibly drop my weapon. Reply Back to Top |
quote: This is the question, is it legal? This is a grey area and people just giving opinions. Reply Back to Top |
quote: quote: Its also illegal to shoot/mug/rob/beat up people so. Reply Back to Top |
quote:That's all I'm doing. If I felt like I would need my gun to protect myself in a particular bar then I'd just avoid that bar since bringing my gun inside is illegal. Same goes for a parade unless I were certain I'm not breaking the law by carrying. Reply Back to Top |
quote: This is all I'm looking for. I know it's not a good idea even if it was legal. I probably wouldn't have done it no matter what the opinion here, but I jut wanted to see what others thought. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by TigerOnThe Hill on 2/6 at 11:30 pm to KG6 KG6, I always thought it meant one couldn't legally cc AT the parade, but dawg23 (who teaches cc classes) said not long ago on this board that it meant IN (as in a participant of) the parade. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
