So why would the latter be refused by the state to two legally consenting adults based on the definition of the former? Personally, I'd like to see the term "marriage" taken out of the legal realm and reserved for the churches. Then we could simply have civil unions for everyone in the eyes of the state and then each individual church could decide which "marriages" they recognize and which they don't.
