Alternate Takes and Demos of Classic Songs I'll start it off: The Beatles - A Day In The Life (Rehersal Demo) - I've always liked this song and I like this alternative version as well. Pink Floyd - On the Run (Studio Version) Pink Floyd - On the Run (Demo) - Pink Floyd had been performing much of The Dark Side of the Moon live for about a year before recording it in the studio. This is the original version of On the Run that was eventually replaced with the synthesizer version on the final studio recording. I like both but I think I prefer the original with the guitar. Pink Floyd - Have A Cigar - Roger Waters wasn't comfortable/confident doing the vocals for the Wish You Were Here album so Pink Floyd brought in Roy Harper to do the vocals. This is a demo of Have a Cigar with Waters singing. The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows (Studio Version) The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows (Alternate Version) - Very different version from the studio recording. Foo Fighters - Everlong (Acoustic) - Live recording of a nice acoustic version of Everlong This post was edited on 2/2 at 1:06 am Reply Back to Top
good idea for a thread Harry Nilsson - "Without You" -- The singing is much more emotional here than on the released single Reply Back to Top
John Lennon -- "Strawberry Fields Forever" -- A number of demos for this survive, this link has two Reply Back to Top
Doc Pomus & Mort Shuman - "It's Great To Be Young And In Love" -- This is the demo for what would later become (with different lyrics) "Teenager In Love" by Dion & The Belmonts (and you can hear an outtake of that here) performed by its composers. ![]() Reply Back to Top |
The Doors - Moonlight Drive Jackson Browne - Doctor My Eyes Reply Back to Top
I just stumbled on to this fascinating track This is Paul McCartney improvising on the old Jerome Kern standard "The Way You Look Tonight" (listen to a conventional version here). You can actually hear as the song evolves into The Beatles' "I Will". Reply Back to Top
Didn't know there were any Doors demos around. Do many survive? ETA: Well I'll be darned, here's another one "Hello I Love You" This post was edited on 2/2 at 12:27 am Reply Back to Top
I've gone back and forth on that Doors demo, it sounds like Morrison but the quality is probably too good for that period. I'll leave the link up because it's not a bad version of the song even if it's a fake. I know this one's real: Nirvana - Lithium Reply Back to Top

Nah, I was referring to the Moonlight Drive link that I posted. Reply Back to Top
I have always liked this alternate UK Surf version of Wave of Mutilation a little better than the original Pixies - Wave of Mutilation Reply Back to Top

I doubt the evil empire would have used this as their campaign song if this was the final album version... originally an outtake from Nebraska album Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA This post was edited on 2/2 at 11:08 am Reply Back to Top Refresh
