quote: Reminds me of the scene in Naked Gun when leslie nielson is ump and realizes that the home crowd goes nuts every time he calls a strike. Then starts calling strikes before the ball even leaves the pitcher's hands lol Reply Back to Top |
| Please tell me that somewhere in this thread there is a Braves fan complaining about a wide strike zone in the 90s. That sort of irony could really get me through the long weekend. Reply Back to Top |

| This video shows his pitches on a strike zone grid (sorry for bad quality). They were swinging at those third strikes because Gregg had been calling those strikes all day. Reply Back to Top |
| What would happen if the count was 3-2 and on one of those way outside called strikeouts, the batter just said "nah, no way. Im taking my base" and went to first anyway? I mean obviously he would get thrown out, but he refuses to leave first. Will the game have to be stopped until security/police can come physically remove him from the field? What kind of suspension would he be looking at for something like that? Reply Back to Top |
| I still don't understand why the Barves pitches didn't use it like Livan Hernandez did. Reply Back to Top |
Why are you complaining about something that happened 16 years ago????? Reply Back to Top |

| The strike zone was moved to the outside in that era. Inside strikes were balls and outside balls were strikes. The braves benefitted the most in that era due to the great control exhibited by their starters. This post was edited on 1/18 at 4:10 pm Reply Back to Top |

quote: I don't know about that. But as a guy who played BB from LL at age 9 to HS, College and Sr. League at age 45 I can tell you that the only pitch you can't hit is one a foot outside. I didn't mind the ump having a high or low strike zone. I didn't mind it inside. But if you give the pitcher a foot outside it cannot be hit. Reply Back to Top |
| That's what I was doing while watching that game. Pissed me off to no end. Reply Back to Top |
| That ump kept giving him more and more room on the outside vs the lefties. Reply Back to Top |
