NIT hopes evaporating. I missed the game and I'm a little thankful I did. This one is beyond tough to handle.

We looked better than the score IMO. It was fouls/freethrows and some dumb turnovers that were tough to watch. Besides that, the offense had better movement and spacing, the defense played decent, not their best though, we out rebounded them, we shot better.

two bad teams. we were worse. pretty much the story of sec basketball. i love college basketball but this shite gets tougher to watch every year. (im speaking of the conference in general, not just LSU)

Hate to say it... this team will be lucky to win 4 SEC games without a major turnaround.... there's still time, but Johnny Jones needs to step it up. This may be the worst year for SEC BB I've ever seen. It's baaaaaad!

It is easy, for a basketball fan who desperately wants a team that is competitive to get down. Emotions always run high after a loss, especially after a game we were supposed to win.

I am generally optimistic and so wanted this team to be better than it is this year. I followed the recruitment of each new player and watched Johnny put together a last minute patchwork team. It is hard to judge talent until you actually see them perform against a quality opponent.

I gave our new players way too much credit for their abilities. At first in the games against inferior talent, they seemed to meet and even exceed my expectations. I really worried about how lack of height was going to work in the SEC rebounding wars and interior defense and it has come home to roost.

I said we would live and die by the three pointer and it has come to pass when we are not able to press and get easy layups. Johnny doesn't want to press because we are short handed. The press is our best offense because we are short handed.

Just like in the Trent days our half court sets against a zone consist of us throwing the ball around the outside and then jacking up a highly contested three. It's always something. Either we miss all our free throws, can't rebound, have outrageous turnovers or can't hit a shot.

In short, while I will still pull for the Tigers and hope this team finds their mental focus and toughness, I do not believe anymore. We just simply aren't that good. This isn't negative, it is realistic based on the games we have played so far.

Unlike some, I never expected us to be a tourney team. Maybe a chance at the NIT. But I did expect us to beat the Auburn's and South Carolina's on our schedule.

Exactly... Aubie and South Carolina needed to be wins. If u can't beat them, who's left besides Vandy and Miss St. at home ? This team will beat almost no one on the road right now. UGA is bad, but beating them right now on the road is in real doubt.

I think LSU will getsome unexpected wins, and lose some they shouldn't. Kinda felt this way all along. They have been inconsistent. Inconsistent in their rebounding, turnovers, and shooting. Get all three of those going at once and they could beat pretty much anyone. Have two of those three missing and they could lose to anyone.

And for those who wanted him to call a timeout at the end of the regulation period, why? Do you not think LSU had practiced that situation 10000 times before? Because they have. No reason to let USC setup a defense. I didn't like the shot, but I didn't mind Jones putting the ball in Hickeys hands to do what he pleased.

and i am not criticizing the coach (i think he is doing a good job and i think he managed the game well). i am merely questioning one play, bc leaving "the ball in Hicky's hands to do what he pleased" led to a JOB 3-point shot... i doubt they practice that. couple that with USC playing a zone (which LSU has yet to figure out in any game) and i think calling a time out to settle the players and draw up a play would have been a good idea.

That is fair. He even said during postgame, that is not what he wanted. In basketball you have to give your players freedom to do what they think is best because the game evolves so much. Jones wanted Hiceky to get inside and then make something happen, but he put it in JOBs hands.

I didn't like the shot, and I dont think any Tiger fan did. I simply am talking about people who are down on Jones for the game in which I think overall, he coached well in.

I understood the "no timeout" at the end. With the pressure Usce was putting on the ball, we may have trouble even inbounding it.
I think Hickey did what he thought was best by passing it to the open guy. Most times that is right. But, giving the ball to your 6'9" PF 25 ft from the basket to allow him to take the 3 (be it open or covered) was a bad decision by a good player.
Hopefully Hickey learns from that.

JOB is painful to watch. You can see that he has talent. But, he plays as if he has to do everything. He is one of the players that LSU needs to be a consistent double-double guy. And his foul troubles drive you crazy. Hopefully, things get better for him. Right now, he really looks to be lacking in confidence.

As crazy as it is, this team is entertaining to watch. When their shot falls, they look really good. Then they look terrible all of the sudden.

This team really lacks talent down low. Late in the game, if we just rebound the ball we win.

JOB turnovers and fouls lost the game. Oh and I think Collins really helped them get back in the lead. That damn floor tripping players and what not.

The loss really puts a damper on LSU's season prospects. With this being one of their easier match-ups, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. LSU had way more mental mistakes in this one than anyone could have expected, and they lost LSU the game.
Some North Texas fans I spoke to said that JJ's teams always got hot at the end of the season and played their best Basketball in the Conference tourney

We are analogous to a football team with no offense line/running game (post play), and all we really have is an elite QB (Hickey) and some decent wide receivers (our 2-3's). That's fine when it works, we put up big numbers and can't be stopped. But when we go up against a team with a decent secondary (perimeter defense), or doesn't allow the big play (fast break points), or when we have an off passing game (Auburn), we are pretty much done. That's something we have to accept this year. We are West Virginia

I'm right behind SoS with my undying support for this basketball team. And I get really annoyed when "fair weather" fans complain about the team/tired of waiting for the future impatient crap.

I'm OK with the deserved criticisms (indeed I'll make them myself) about individual mistakes etc., but I'm sick and tired of "fans" just piling on negativity all the time.

LSU basketball fans must be the worst ever. They're unable to be consistently encouraging. That's the fans' job, be encouraging, cheer for a team, regardless. Players on a team get built up by that unconditional support. They'll try hard for fans that go out and support them, get loud for them. They're human, and they're also kids.

This team needs that type of support more than some other teams. And here's why;
they know that as a group they're under-sized and of mediocre talent. It's hard to go out and compete when you know those realities, especially in the SEC, but still have to go out and play. There are kids on that team that should never have been recruited by LSU, but there they are.
This group has actually shown toughness to compete despite their disadvantages, but they need our support to keep on going.

Don't underestimate the power of a full arena and loud fans. It's still an entertaining product, even if the entertainment is sometimes provided by the opponents!

The biggest problem, imo with all college fans, is that they start to view the games as some sort of business product. It's not the NBA or NFL where you boo paid athletes, these are kids playing for their university. Every player donning the LSU uniform deserves support just for that.

I think that's the vocal minority. Just my opinion. Most fans that I talk to that actually go to the games and keep up with the team, both young and informed and the older guys who were around during the Dale era, are rational and supportive. Don't let the lunacy that is the football mentality on TigerDroppings get to you.

If I'm paying $20+ for a ticket, it IS a business product. That this one doesn't pay its workers salary means nothing to me as a fan.

But yeah, there are a lot of fans on here that tend to bash the players without really knowing what they are talking about.
