| Converting an old boat trailer- any thought Weve got this old trailer and looking at it, figured that it could be converted to carry a riding lawnmower. I was thinking i could also put something to be able to carry kayaks on it. Any thoughts? I was thinking a diamond grated botton and then make a ramp and sides. Would it have to pass somethin to be streetegal? ![]() Reply Back to Top |

| Perhaps if I had the boat that used to be on that is now the bottom of the lake? Its been sitting out there for like 16 years Reply Back to Top |
| old boat trailers make damn good utility trailers...just rearrange it enough to show that half of it is home made and get it restamped as a new trailer... Reply Back to Top |
| You could weld two right angle pieces to the frame in front, maybe one in the open area in the center and just drill and use 2x6's for the base. Weld a couple or three tie down bars to the sides to strap things down and you're good to go. eta-(personally, I'd extend the frame to about a foot behind the roller, keep it, and weld a bar or something in front, if you ever needed to come-a-long something up. | Thanks I wonder if it could be made to do both Reply Back to Top |
| Make sure you can get the tags, then adapt as needed I would think. As far as pieces/parts for the trailer not the fab part, check out Sturdybuiltonline.com. Reply Back to Top |

| eta - got it to load. Or that. Easier to change out treated 2x6's held by carriage bolts if either is damaged though. This post was edited on 1/13 at 6:13 pm Reply Back to Top |

quote: not really...it is not ideal, but I have carried a hell of a boat on a trailer that had 12" tires before... Reply Back to Top |
