| Soccer book: Behind the Curtain: Travels in Eastern European Football Posted by Tweezy on 1/11 at 5:50 pm I haven't read it, but saw the review on bundesliga fanatic. I'll post the link at the bottom, but it's a travelouge and he goes to Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, the Balkans, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia. As the article mentions it's from 2006 so some things have changed, but I think thenry said he was moving to Ukraine or something like that so I thought he and others might be interested. | I read it recently. Some of it is quite dense, and repetitive albeit informative. Gist: Eastern European country breaks from the Soviet Union. Turns out they're now poor fiscally and in footballing terms and corrupt. The other sections about football in Ukraine, the Balkans, and Russia are interesting. Reply • Back to Top |

| I liked it. Not sure I loved it, but it was good. Whether or not you really care about the history of tactics in 19th century England is up to you. Like this book (I haven't read it so I'm going by the reviews here), it's not necessarily comprehensive. The last 20 years or so seemed really rushed. There's also nothing about Spain, for instance. There's a good bit about Eastern Europe (partly because that's Wilson's specialty, and partly because he talks a lot about pressing and he credits the manager of Dynamo Kiev - could be wrong about that, might be another Eastern bloc club - with being the originator of that.)
