| Has Any President Ever Been as Antagonistic and Condescending as Obama? Posted by Patrick_Bateman Listening to Obama's speech (read: pep rally) today, I thought to myself, "Why would any Republican ever want to work with this jerk?" It's no secret that in order to pass any legislation, Republican votes will be needed. But with the way Obama bad-mouths and disrespects them publicly, I can't blame them for trying to obstruct O's agenda. I'm only 29, but I don't remember Clinton or Bush ever behaving this way. Sure, they had disagreements with the other party, but I never remember either one being as condescending to their dissenters as Obama has been. . . Maybe there's never been a more "obstructionist" Congress? I don't know. . . But Obama's leadership is lacking. I think most reasonable people will acknowledge that. He has done nothing to bridge the divide between the parties and bring bipartisan government to our country (as he promised in his 2008 Hope & Change campaign). Quite the contrary, he's made things much worse IMO. America has never been more divided (in my lifetime) than it is now. He can continue to blame Congress, he can continue to blame Republicans, he can continue to have weekly political pep rallies with his supporters clapping and cheering on TV. . . but the buck ultimately stops with the President. And, as far as actually getting things done, he has been a failure IMO. /rant This post was edited on 12/31 at 9:28 pm Reply Back to Top |

| No, he's the most partisan politician I have ever seen. Reply Back to Top |
| Has any opposition party ever been as antagonistic to a president? Chicken. Egg. I suspect one's opinion of which came first depends entirely on party affiliation. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I figured that would be the answer from the other side. It's impossible to say which came first. But, like I said, the buck ultimately stops with Obama. He should lead, in spite of whatever opposition he faces. Reply Back to Top |

| You guys have no sense of history. Woodrow Wilson and FDR were enormously more socialist and condescending. Obama is practically conservative compared with them. Reply Back to Top |
| He's the guy who keeps poking you in the chest. His temperament is incompatible with leadership in a Democracy. He'd be a great dictator in some two-bit Carribean Island. He is fundamentally a bully and he is motivated by resentment. I suspect things end messily for him. Karma will catch up to him. You can't outrun karma. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Yes. And, in fact, much moreso. quote: Specific examples, please. Johnson, Nixon and Reagan were every bit as antagonistic and condescending at times. Bush II was passive aggressive but pretty much the same. This post was edited on 1/1 at 9:25 am Reply Back to Top |
| Reagan ? Wut.... Reply Back to Top |
| Tip Oneill would disagree with you, arguing ones point during the course of work needn't be caustic. He often spoke of going toe to toe during the day with Reagan's people then having brandy and cigars on the veranda of the White House. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
