Tyson is one of the most interesting sports figures of the last century IMO. Dude is very intelligent; I would highly recommend watching his documentary.

He couldn't cope with D'Amato's death and went off the deep end. D'Amato was the only person that he trusted/Tyson would listen to.

Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano the minute he was 76 years old. Joe Louis was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis?' You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!

Well, what's the excuse for the German?

I watched it several times. Great stuff. Especially the story about Teddy pulling the gun on Tyson.

Glad to see Johnson getting some love. People forget about the beginnings of boxing. Johnson was the first black heavy weight champ, who paved the way for fighters like louis, tyson, ali, frazier, etc.

AND he fought back in the day with the fights would go into the twenties or thirties as far as rounds go. Damn, I could only imagine seeing something like that.

I think it's just the opposite. There can't be a legit top 3 without Ali.

Shouldn't be an order. How could you accurately judge Johnson against Ali?

So true, which is why it was so tough for Joe Louis to get a shot at the title.

I grew up in Galveston, my family has lived there forever. He's legend out there.

Why does Lennox Lewis never get any love??

He only had 2 losses, and he avenged both of them by knock out.

He beat legends such as Tyson, Holyfield, Klitschko, & Rocky's protege. He even knocked out Phil Jackson.

Not only did he beat everyone he ever faced, but he was KO'ing them as well.

He was tall, had great technique, discipline, and could beat anyone from any era on any given night.

I've gotten tons of respect for Lewis, great fighter. I just can't place him in my top 3. Top 10 for sure though. Just too many greats out there to compare.

I think people forget about him because: a.) He's from england, and that doesn't set well with a lot of american boxing fans. B.) He wasn't a polarizing figurehead in the public. He wasn't loud/obnoxious/boastful. He had a workman like style, show up, beat your ass, go home. Rinse repeat.

Vait a minute. Vat about Rocky Marciano?

Oh there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out their ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano. Rocky Marciano. Let me tell you something once and for all. Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't shite.

Ali is #1. Hate all you want. He's #1.

Joe Louis is #2. In my book #1 and #2 are not up for debate.

I've watched heavyweights for nearly 40 years. In my book, those two stand head and shoulders above the next tier.

Tier Two:

Marciano
Dempsey
Foreman (Yes. Believe it.)
Frazier
Tyson

UNDERRATED:

Evander Holyfield should be in Tier Two, but popular opinion keeps him out because he was always kind of a boring, nice guy. The man was a fighting machine. He deserves better than what history gives him.

Larry Holmes - not saying he was a once in a lifetime fighter, but he was "great." Twenty title defenses, people. TWENTY. Think about that for a little while.

He also was in his prime when the heavyweight division was going down. Had he fought Holyfield and Tyson between 90 and 95 it would be different. But he fought them in 99 and 2000. All of the attention at the time was on De la Hoya, Trinidad, Jones Jr... etc

Lewis is actually Canadian fwiw.

He just talks like a Brit since he was born there
