Covington High standout defensive tackle Gerrald McDowell is on the verge of becoming a household name.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound lineman has been wreaking havoc all year for the Lions. McDowell, who recently was named in the NOLA.com Top 20 Prospects List for 2014, has caught the attention of LSU and Tigers defensive line coach Brick Haley, who is recruiting him.

McDowell is visiting LSU on Oct. 13 for the South Carolina game and it’s expected he’ll receive a scholarship offer from Haley and the Tigers.
