82Games.Com is Live for 2012-13 Posted by corndeaux Some good advanced stats up over there now for the Hornets. They break down individual players and the 5 man units put on the floor. LINK For instance, the four best players on the team according to their Simple Rating are the bigs (Davis, Smith, Anderson, Lopez). Not a surprise at all. But it is surprising that when Davis is on the floor, the team gives up 113 points per 100 possessions. That would have been worse than Charlotte last year. Obviously a very small sample size (Davis has only played 33% of the team's minutes), but something to keep an eye on. Reply Back to Top

Interesting on the top 5 units. Davis is a member of only three units that have outscore their opponents per 100 possessions. Those units are the 13th, 14th, and 17th most used (7, 6 and 5 minutes respectively) by the team. The best unit is Mason-Vasquez-Aminu-Anderson-Smith. They have only played 9 minutes together. The second most used (26 total minutes)- Rivers, Vasquez, Aminu, Anderson, Lopez- is right behind that lineup. The most used lineup is the typical starting unit (67 minutes). That group scores 1.03 and allows 1.20 per 100 possessions. Monty has not used a lineup with Davis, Anderson, and Lopez on the floor together yet. Reply Back to Top

Does Monty know that? Reply Back to Top
I think this team is lacking chemistry honestly. A lot of new faces and they are still getting used to playing together. Reply Back to Top
| Some more sample size on 82games.com. Still very small, but there are several units now with Anderson/Davis at the 4 and 5 respectively. The most used as of today is Mason/Vasquez/Aminu/Anderson/Davis (18 minutes total). Not much better offensive/defensive ppp- about 1ppp for and 1.2ppp against- than the most used lineup for Davis (Rivers-Vasquez-Aminu-Davis-Lopez). There has been a unit with Davis, Anderson, and Rivers on the floor for about 20 minutes total this season. The very early ppp numbers look about the same with those three in the lineup together, but I certainly would like to see more. Still no lineup with Davis at the three, but I'm not sure how 82games decides positions. They have Vasquez listed almost exclusively as a 2. Lineups with Anderson at the three, Davis at 4, and Smith/Lopez at 5 have been underwhelming. Again all of this is a from a very small sample size, but something to keep an eye on. | Our bigs are clearly the strength of the team. Reply Back to Top |
Definitely. Doing everything to maximize a Davis/Anderson front court has to be the goal. Reply Back to Top
Update- Based on 82games Simple Rating, the worst players for the Hornets this season are Miller, McGuire, and Rivers at -11, -10.3 and -10.2 respectively. The next worst player is Mason at -2.6 The Hornets still have only 4 players with + ratings (Gordon, Lopez, Anderson, Vasquez) but most players are closing in on at least a neutral rating. As for some Gordon lineup numbers: When he is on the floor, 1.11 points per 100 possesions for, 1.12 PPP against. 74% of his shots are jumpers, which he is hitting at 36% The most used 5 man lineup is Gordon/Mason/Vasquez/Anderson/Davis at 14 minutes. 1.36 PPP for, 1.46 PPP against In 12 minutes, the starting lineup is .83 PPP for, 1 PPP against. Obviously the sample size is very small, so the stats aren't definitive by any means. Just an early snapshot Reply Back to Top Refresh
