Who's buying some MSFT

Price seems to be undervalued and just took a big hit because of the shake-up at the top. I'm thinking it could be a good buy.

I bought a little while ago around $31. I've lost a big since, but I am still long MSFT. Here's what I know:

1) Great valuation
2) Solid historical earnings
3) Solid brand name and diverse operations
4) Positive outlook with a PC rebound

All signs point to price appreciation over the mid-long term. However, never go 100% in one stock!

CNN Money has this when you go to MSFT.

quote:

MSFT Regular Dividend: MSFT began trading ex-dividend on 11/13/12 after paying a $0.23 dividend payable to shareholders of record as of 11/15/12.

I could be totally wrong but that means that if you are a shareholder tomorrow you get paid a dividend correct? If so, would the price not rise a little around dividend time from people wanting to get in and make a quick buck?

was literally just looking at this. I think MSFT is about to see a huge jump and will eventually be very competitive in the tablet market

No. It typically just falls after the dividend is paid out.

Looks like the low end for MSFT is around 24 dollars.. not a whole lot of risk right now.

If the Surface tablet bombs, there may be huge losses around the corner as they scramble for 'whats next?'. But I think you are right. I may buy in the future. Just need to do some more research.

My thoughts exactly. I've been watching this one a while thinking it was pretty undervalued with windows 8 and the surface coming out. After the 3% drop because of executive turnover, I made my move today and picked up a small position. If it falls further, I'll buy some more. I don't see much downside and possibly a huge upside. Glad I'm not the only one to think this.

I am pretty conservative with my buy targets, but they usually work. I shoot for a 15% annual return.

Assuming 9% EPS, Average P/E of 10 and a Payout Ratio of 40%, MSFT would be a strong buy under 20.

Under $25 and I might buy some.

Man if they drop under 20, something has gone horribly wrong and they are in trouble.

When the market corrects, you can get great bargains like that. You could of picked some up in early 2009 around 16.

People need cash and start selling everything. That's the best time to buy.

If it's a market correction that's happening, I'm probably going to take a risk on something with more volatility.

You could have just bought a SP500 fund at the same time and be better off.

Now you can say that, but what if you bought AAPL instead of MSFT. It's impossible to tell at the time what will perform better, but individual stocks offer greater chances of making big returns than index funds (and greater risk as well).

We are mixing apples and oranges in this discussion. If you think a market move is happening upward, then higher risk plays tend to get more of a bounce. If you think we are heading down, then stick with established businesses. Obviously if you think a company has a growing business then the market really doesn't mean much.
