re: The SEC and Dealing From the Bottom of the Deckquote: I couldn't agree more. The people who make this argument are clearly not thinking about what's best for LSU. No one is asking for a schedule composed of 12 cupcakes.... Just a little fairness. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Is that speculation or has this been said by one of their AD's in some way? I'm asking...I don't know. My original point was that Alleva dropped that little tidbit out there in his e-mail as if his simply stating that LSU was opposed to it meant something. Fine...we're "opposed" to it...but what does that mean? Do we petition the other universities? Are we actively doing anything in opposition other than balling up our collective fists and shaking them in the direction of the SEC offices? If it's true that LSU is in the minority in this regard and a majority of the other programs like and want to continue the current system, than I'd like Alleva to say that. We're just outvoted. But I would like to know what we're actually doing to address it since we're told we're opposed to it. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Preach it, brother. Bama actually voted against "tradition" by allowing aTm and Missouri into the league. They also voted against tradition when they voted for Arky and USCe back in the 90s as well. They can't have their cake and eat it too anymore. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I remember last year or whenever this came up last, several other AD's from schools that seemingly have no dog in the fight stating that they wanted to keep the status quo. Up until then I had the same thought as you. That being that LSU should be able to get a majority of votes. Once these other schools came out saying that they liked their current permanent cross division rival I just figured all hope was lost. I honestly am beginning to think our best chance for change is if somehow UF were to fall on really hard times. That's not happening, but if it did I'm sure something would be done about LSU's easier path. Reply Back to Top |
| Wow...I'm glad none of you pansies play on the team. If we can't beat UF, then we don't deserve to play for a NC or SEC title. If we don't play them in October, we will play them in December anyway. You guys will find anything to get all pissy about. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Both Alleva and Miles have spoken about it and expressed their frustration. We actually have very few allies in this. Bama/Tenn/GA/AU of course all want to keep the status quo. (though I believe Tenn secretly would love to end it but doesn't want to appear fearful of Bama) All the bottom feeders, Vandy/Ken/MSU/Ole Miss/ are happy that they don't have to play the big boys as often with the current set up and are unlikely to change their stance. That leaves only FL/USC/Ark/TAMU/Mizz as possible allies. Playing us is not as big an issue for FL as it is for us because their main competition in the East (USC/GA/Tenn) all have an acceptable permanent opponent. Ark/Tamu/Mizz also have a fairly equitable schedules so they aren't beating down the door for change. The only real ally we have at the moment is USC and Spurrier, since they are kind of inbetween the have nots and the haves at the moment and covet the schedules that GA/KY/Vandy have. When the subject of changing the schedule rotation was brought up this summer at the conference meeting, only USC and perhaps Ark were on our side, the rest of the conference was in favor of keeping the imbalance...for obvious reasons. quote: I addressed this earlier... quote: It's about equity in the schedule. Fact is, there's nothing weak about playing a randomly selected, equally balanced SEC schedule that doesn't feature a permanent opponent. Your fear of being called scared is allowing yourself to be backed into a corner and facing a needlessly harder schedule then our biggest rival. When the SECCG rolls around, I'd rather be there after having played a schedule as equal to the rest of our SECW opponents as possible rather than sitting at home talking about how weak BAMA's schedule is as they hoist another SEC flag. If BAMA still makes it to the NCG this year, do you think they'll think it was tainted as a result of their having not faced UF & USCe? Do you think national media will call them out for it? Since the answer is a resounding no for both, why should we wish for a HARDER schedule than they have? Bragging rights? Reply Back to Top |
| PERFECTLY said my brother!! Reply Back to Top |
| And I might add to nitwits like "tigersmojo" that I would be perfectly happy playing a schedule that included 12 Florida type teams, as long as the teams we compete with for conference and national titles played the SAME SCHEDULE! Reply Back to Top |

Posted by whomewhat on 11/13 at 3:46 pm to blueridgeTiger quote: The complaint here, and it's actually valid I think, is that the East would be loaded and the West would be LSU's to lose most years. I was thinking we need to forget geography altogether. If some rivlaries are important than how bout this: Division A: UGA, Florida, LSU, A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss. St Division B: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, S Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Vandy. The first division may be slightly tougher most years, but it's close. It also keeps UF-UGA, UT-Bama, Bama-Auburn, Ole Miss-Miss St, Etc. Reply Back to Top |
| Aside from the unfairness of playing UF every year...when was the last time Alabama played Georgia?s it might just be my faulty memory, but they seem to play UGA a lot less often than we do. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by olgoi khorkhoi on 11/13 at 5:27 pm to GeauxTigerTM It's no coincidence that LSU and Florida have never played in the SECCG. The two best teams in the SEC over the last 12 years routinely knock each other out of the title game.Reply Back to Top |
quote: i can't imagine we're the only one. look, if georgia and bama play more of the bottom feeders, shouldn't the bottom feeders be against it? it's like LSU, florida and usc get the shaft while bama and ga skate. it's starting to piss me off and LSU needs to damn stand up to this shite. Reply Back to Top |
| Don't expect Alleva to stand up to anybody but his wife or mother! Reply Back to Top |
| How do we draw georgia? Don't mind fl. Reply Back to Top |
| I have absolutely no problem playing a Florida plus Georgia or whoever else any year. The tougher our schedule is the better chance we have of making it into the NC game. If we lose to a ranked team early in the year but play five more ranked teams we probably just have to win out. Reply Back to Top |
| Actually that's not really true. Georgia played a much worse schedule than us this year yet they are in a much better position to play for the National Title. Alabama last year played a much worse schedule than us. The top 3 teams this year all played much worse schedules than ours Reply Back to Top |
quote: Yeah...without the loss to Florida earlier this season we'd be looking at a SECCG and BCS bowl. Like if we got to play say, Tenn instead. Reply Back to Top |
quote: We might be the only ones bc we are the ones stuck with Florida every year. Don't know how Florida fans feel about playing us every year. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
