| With the Production Tax Credit (PTC) on renewable energy set to expire at the end of the year, Vestas Wind Systems A/S had previously said it could be forced to lay off a total of 1,600 employees in North America if the scheme is not renewed. Posted by Zahrim on 10/14 at 2:14 pm to RTR America quote: yeah because the politicians wont pass the fricking PTC that has been passed every fricking year since the 90's and GWB championed. the PTC not being passed is causing American power companies (Nextera (formerly Florida Power and Light), Xcel Power, etc)who were buying those wind turbine parts to put planned farms on hold for 2013 construction and causing that company to loose orders for the parts and not do the planned expansion they had in Colorado. So instead of the 4 factories they planned to build here (so they could build the whole construction process of the turbine in a centralized point in North America)they only have one and the rest of the parts have to be farmed out of country... The PTC puts them on a level playing field with the other subsidies that O/G et. al. get. LINK it all comes down to the PTC, that gets passed Vestas can get back on track to building the factories they need in Colorado employing 5000 more people instead of laying off the 1600 people they are currently having to.
