That's the best you got? I take that back about you being clever.

150/200 per week????? What is he responsible for?

The way I see it, if I'm paying for gas, insurance, clothes and meals, what does he really need THAT much money for? I mean, if I'm cooking rice and gravy for dinner and he "wants" to eat out or with friends, that is his choice but I'm not supporting a $20 per meal habit when I've cooked a whole meal for WAYYYYYYYY less than that.

The above amount stated to someone just seems completely absurd to me but as always, we all parent differently and honestly to each his own.

And I will NEVER EVER pay for grades ... he's getting his payment in gas, insurance, etc. Maybe I sound harsh but my kids have turned out ok so far (20, 15, 11 1/2) and know the value of a dollar!

I have been giving him 50 every two weeks for chores around the house & for helping out his grandfather. I don't reward him for things he is suppose to be doing anyway-like keeping his grades up-it is expected.

I have trouble deciding this, also. I don't give a set dollar amount; I give monetary rewards based on chores he does during the week i.e. room clean, yard work, etc. I also reward for good grades.
My son is younger, eleven, so he doesn't have the need for a substantial allowance yet, & I'm not looking forward to that.

As long as mine (14yr old boy) does right in school and acts right out of school I have no problem giving him spending money. Working should not be a responsibility a teenager should have to concern themselves with if school is being taken seriously. Just my. 02
