| A 16 year old should be doing work. At least yardwork or something, if he wants an allowance. Reply Back to Top |
| Nothing, he can get a job. What are you doing? Preparing him for Obamacare? Reply Back to Top |

| My kids don't get an allowance per se. We expect them to do chores and they do. When they go somewhere we gave them money. They also work on the farm ... and their grandfather pays them as they were truly working for him so they used that money for things too. But we have no "set amount". Also, the oldest is now in college ... the 2nd is in 9th grade. The oldest never had a true job in high school as he really was involved in sports and academics so a schedule was impossible. Summers he spent on the farm ... the 2nd son will be doing the same thing. This post was edited on 10/5 at 6:03 pm Reply Back to Top |
quote: That depends. Does he have a job? I got a job very shortly after I turned 16. It was a part-time minimum wage job, but I was working as many hours as I could, and I didn't get into any trouble. I stilled mowed the lawn on my off days and helped out around the house, so my parents helped me out with gas and insurance and other random shite. It wasn't really an allowance in the strictest sense because they paid for that stuff directly. Before I turned 16, I made money around the neighborhood mowing grass too. | I used to get a $20 bill a day for lunch and shite when I was in high school. I had my own truck, played sports, and always on the move. This money covered my gas, food, and what not. On the weekend, I would get an extra $50 or so, depending on what was going on. I could always make it to the weekend with at least $50 in my pocket. I am 34 now, so this was damn near 20 years ago. | Make him get a job at a movie theater. He gets paid and free movies... Two less things you have to worry about. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Exact same for me when I was a kid. I had friends who bragged about allowances but they had to use their allowance money not only when they went places but also when they needs new clothing and even toiletries. I see their parents' point but man that sucks Reply Back to Top |
| When the time came for the discussion my husband said that this was how his mom and dad did it. Workedhis arse off on the farm = money for movies, dates, reasonable things. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
