huh? wiki is one of the few good at politics. just because he doesn't sugar coat shite and bow down to big government doesnt mean he sucks at politics. actually far from it.

only good government is no government, but government is a necessary evil and we should keep it as small as possible.

this thread is funny though. most people on TD say they are conservative and want much smaller government. But every time something is cut that people on here like, there is a huge bitch fest. funny how that works.

Aren't these cuts a result of a decline in Medicare/Medicaid funding??

wow, you just contradicted yourself in the same sentence. so we don't need government, but we need it? make up your mind. Of course we need government. We just don't need federal government, we need state government. The state has plenty of other programs it could cut besides educating our future doctors, nurses, and health care professionals. The healthcare industry is going to double in ten years, how will we be ready for it with a shortage of doctors and nurses. Please explain because it sounds like you know nothing about how the healthcare industry works.

this isn't big government. this is basic, fundamental government.

Because what they are cutting is extremely important to our future and will affect our economy in a negative way.

Let me be clear I hate government because it is abused. always has, always will. thats why the only good government is no government. Its the only way to ensure that there will be no government tyranny. Government is need though to protect private property rights.

state with 4 million people doesnt need that many training hospitals. I realize that the health care industry is going to double, you can train the doctors in one facility in Nola. And why does it have to be paid for by the state?

Where would you like jindal to cut? he can only cut higher ed and health care. He tried closing schools and people went ape shite over SUNO. what do you want him to do?

how is training doctors a fundamental responsibility of a state government? why cant doctors learn in a private setting?

as far as it hurting our economy, maybe, but taxing the shite out of industries to make ends meet will hurt it a lot more. Face it, we have been living beyond our means and its time to pay the piper.

before you come with a smart arse remark please answer my questions.

false, there are exceptions.

Who else is going to pay for it? LSU is a state university in case you haven't noticed

not the way things work. Doctors do train in a private setting and it's called Tulane, which is extremely expensive. Most med students can't afford that. We are fortunate enough to have a state institution that is actually better than Tulane and cheaper. In this case the government funded school does a better job, so your pointless argument is bull shite.

Taxes on idustries will remain the same. We have been living beyond our means, but there are plenty of other programs that the state could cut besides healthcare education.

I'm in nursing school at Southeastern, and this kind of puts the writing on the wall for me. With that many healthcare professionals losing their jobs, I foresee it being harder than it normally would be to get a decent job once I graduate due to competition (despite a near 4.0 GPA). Of course, many of those nurses are close to retirement age (if not there already), but it doesn't much matter anyway. The current surplus of jobs will be filled at the remaining healthcare centers, leaving the newbs like me to scratch and claw over whatever is left until private organizations can fill the gap. Because of this, I'm fairly certain that it will be necessary for me to leave Louisiana in the future for better opportunity.

... But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

As for the comment about the State having other places to take cuts from... I don't believe that's accurate. The way I understand it is that education and healthcare are part of the state's "general funding", and everything else is wrapped up in the constitution of Louisiana. The Governor can only make cuts out of the general funding, and everything else requires constitutional amendment to impose cuts. Because of this, you get what has been happening to LSU, other Universities, and state funded healthcare facilities.

name those programs please? i dont think this is the best idea ever but its not like he has a ton of wiggle room here. like i said contact a legislature to have a constitutional convention and get this fixed. i dont like anything that hurts LSU, but there isnt much bobby can do.

there are no exceptions to the good government rule. only those that havent turned completely horrible yet.

as far as who else is going to pay for it, if there is demand and a profit can be made, a private practice will step up and get it done. if its not profitable then it doesnt need to be open.

Sorry tulane is expensive, not my problem. Sorry its an inferior product, again not my fault. So why should my money pay for it?

again please name the programs.

this is correct. like i said 2 or 3 times already. contact your legislator and demand a constitutional convention.

we already discussed that. he tried just closing SUNO and look at what happened. He cant close those places despite the fact it makes sense. You and I agree 1000000000% on that but being realistic it cant happen. you know it and I know it.

Oh well. Not like I'm affected. I'm a hospital administrator in Texas. As long as the university hospital exists, I could care less

As you live more life there are a lot more shades of grey and less black & white. To an extent the state has been in a jam because over a period of time the electorate has protected most areas of the budget via constitutional amendments due to a fundamental mistrust of its politicians.

That said, I have not seen Bobby Jindal do a while lot of anything for his state. He's run his mouth. He has given fat, juicy contracts to his friends, family, and contributors. He's donee a lot of shite to posture for a higher office. Ethics are important as long as they don't apply to him. He seems intent on wrecking higher ed - particularly at LSU. He's convinced that few in this state have any sense and thus brings all his "experts" in from out of state. When he doesn't get his way or someone disagrees with him, he lashes out like a two year old. All that said, he has sold the state out. Even a number of Republicans are now beginning to see his true colors.

Make no mistake. What the "little bastard" ("LB")is doing is wrecking this state and it is going to take a long time to recover from it.

Next time, we need to elect someone with more maturity.

I remember not long ago on the news they were reporting that SUNO had a measly 5% graduation rate.

SUNO officials came out and vigorously denied the claim of 5% and that it was actually 7-8%

Damn near closing Charity in Lafayette.

Multi-story hospital closing the entire ICU and only going to be 10 staffed beds after that.

I believe in rectifying the budget.........but DAMN! have we been living this far off from our means for this long?

If that would get that little bastard out of this state, then I am all for it.

I am really surprised that no one has tried to shoot that little bastard.

No one noticed this nugget?

They would not have to shut down anything if they were ran properly. Few of the charity patients are truely no-pay, most all have either medicaid or medicare.

THATS WHY THE FOR-PROFITS WANT THEM - THEY KNOW THEY ARE JUST NOT BEING OPERATED CORRECTLY.

I can tell from this statement that you have never worked in the finance section of a hospital. I have. No for-profit chain wants to touch any hospital that has a majority of Caid patients. And with what is happening at the Federal level, the same will soon be true of Care.
