quote: as some one mentioned, do not discount the civil suits. the "net worth" of PSU will be before the jury in those cases to be considered when awarding punitive damages. that coupled with the facts and now the Freeh report, I think the potential damage awards could set records. PSU would be wise to settle quickly and quietly. You figure at least what 12 victims/plaintiffs. Hell the potential verdicts would likely exceed 100 million easy. Reply Back to Top |

| In a way this is worse than the death penalty They will be forced to play varsity football in the Big Ten with an intramural team. They are going to be humiliated on the field like they have been humiliated off the field (deservedly so). Why did Bill Obrien take this job? Reply Back to Top |
quote: Thanks I had not heard any forecasts but I would agree. The purpose of punitive damages, like the term suggests, is to punish the defendant and its worth is allowed to be considered in that determination. They could appeal the verdicts but they would have to post a bond in the interim most likely. Reply Back to Top |
quote: yep, this may last a decade. psu will be fielding a team of 2 star scrubs once the four year scholly ban is over. This post was edited on 7/23 at 9:00 am Reply Back to Top |
quote: It's a little more than that. I feel pretty confident that they don't see another bowl game this decade. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Good point. There's so much talent in the LA area that one of USC or UCLA tends to be very good at any one time. Penn State is in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania isn't the power it used to be in producing football players, there is no identity to the program anymore, and they're about to get mudstomped by the Big Ten bottom feeders like Indiana and Minnesota for the next decade. The school is also far more likely to lose players to transfers than USC was, IMHO, which will make their descent into mediocrity that much quicker. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
