| Restaurant IPO review Posted by TheHiddenFlask Just went there for lunch. Nice facility Weird modern lighting and tables Very good service The lunch menu was pretty pricey, but had some interesting things on there. I got the lamb sliders and was very impressed, the guys with me got the crab and corn soup with the Benedict Arnold, and the ribeye burger. My portions were ample, but not overly generous. Pretty comparable to Stroube's. The flavor was great. The ribeye burger was gigantic (only slightly smaller than riverside) and looked phenomenal. The Benedict Arnold was a very good size. I liked it a lot and will go back, but it's going to suffer the safe fate as all the other higher end lunch spots in that Stroube's sets the bar and it will have a hard time competing with that. | I've seen them building this place over the last couple of months and it looks like a pretty cool spot from the street. How much are we talking for lunch? Reply Back to Top |
| headed there for dinner tonight......will report back with a review. I don't know much about the lunch menu, but according to the dinner menu: Soups: $6-7 Salads: $8-14 "Southern" tapas: $6-9 Entrees: $16-32 Dinner menu has some interesting stuff on it Reply Back to Top |
quote: The tapas were pretty cheap 6-12 dollars, but she said the portions were small and I didn't want to have to get two of them. the cheapest entrees were 10-13 dollars, and went into the mid 20's. Not outrageous, but once again, in the same price range as Stroube's. Reply Back to Top |
| After giving a warm review of it to my coworkers, they invited me to go with them again today. On second view. The price isn't as big of an issue as I had previously believed. The Tapas are big enough to pair with a soup for a good lunch and would run $12-15 for a very good meal. I tried the cali chicken sandwich and it was pretty good and only ran 10 dollars. The crowd seemed to be bigger today, so maybe it is catching on. This could become a spot that is in my weekly rotation, but Stroube's remains number 1 in my mind. Reply Back to Top |
| what did you get the second time around? Reply Back to Top |
quote: Cali Chicken Sandwich. It was a little light on the meat, but good and appropriately portioned. The ribeye burger was ordered by several people at the table, and once again I regretted not getting it. The ciabatta bun that they serve the burgers and sandwiches on is excellent. | Menu has been posted on their new website. LINK Some of this REALLY interests me. Namely the mussels, the mini tacos, oyster loaf, and duck crepe. Reply Back to Top |
| Went today had the reviled eggs with Tasso and a fried oyster on top. That was delicious. I could have eaten a dozen of them. Reply Back to Top |
| Will be going tonight for drinks and tapas. I'll report back :) Reply Back to Top |
| I really enjoyed my visit here last night. Went around 7:30-8. Food: Had a glass of wine and then had the Ginger Margarita with my meal. The glass of wine was barely an inch full, so that's why I switched to a mixed drink. The marg was very good and fresh. It was served in a big pint glass, so good for the money as well. My mom and I ordered 4 items off the tapas menu to split. We got the scallops, which were very good and big. Got 3 on the plate. Got the mussels. I am a HUGE mussels person, so this was a given for me. The mussels were a curry-coconut dish though, so I don't think I'd order them again. It was too sweet for me, but that's just my personal taste. They tasted awesome and it is a very interesting take on mussels. We also got the roasted duck crepe. Delicious. The duck was awesome, and the garlic herb boursin on top was awesome. Finally, we got the deviled eggs topped with fried oysters. Tasted like deviled eggs, but very good. Service: The hostess was very nice, and the place wasn't too busy so seating was easy. My server was a young, good-looking guy who knew it We weren't given the special forks for the mussels or a spare plate for the shells, which made them slightly difficult to eat. Planned to ask for both, when he came back around but as we started chatting and drinking and I scarfed down the mussels, never got the chance. When he next returned, it wasn't an issue anymore Overall, it was a pleasant experience eating some dishes that aren't offered all over BR. I will be glad to go back and try some other stuff. I don't know that I'll ever go for a full entree meal simply because the tapas menu items appeal to me more. Reply Back to Top |
| Ate there tonight. Ordered catfish tacos (a special), crab cakes (also a special), ceviche tacos (red fish) and Bon temps shrimp. Least favorite was the catfish tacos...the batter was a bit too salty. I really liked the ceviche tacos despite there being too much onion in their relish/slaw stuff. The crab cakes were light and fairly tasty. I really liked the shrimp. Reminded me of bang bang shrimp at Bonefish, but not quite as flavorful. I split the bill with a friend and with tip (and a glass of wine each) my bill with tip was $35. A little pricey IMO, but I'm comfortably full. It was super hard deciding what to get because I wanted everything. Friends got chargrilled oysters, truffle spaghetti, ceviche tacos, catfish tacos and apple pie egg rolls---my friends LOVED those, also really enjoyed the oysters, though they said they were a bit small. All in all, a little pricey, but not bad. We ate on the upper patio and despite being cold, it was really nice outside (just a wee bit dark once the sun went down, was hard to see) This post was edited on 10/19 at 9:42 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I've been three times for dinner and we like it. Not a bad wine list but it could use some imagination but most all in BR can. Only had the tapas as that's my style. It has always been full and lively. So how much wine do you expect in a pour? Reply Back to Top |
| Wadsworth is doin a good job here. 1/5 -1/6 Bottle, 'Tini Reply Back to Top |
| I'm a fan. Might go tonight depending on the Tigers. And yes is standard white or red is 5 ounces which in a large glass might not look like a lot. The rest is for airspace to open the wine. I have some red glasses that are 20 ounces so it looks deceiving. And IPO has a good size glass. I normally buy by the bottle. Now on occasion I like to let my wife pour because she's got a heavy hand and it stops around 10 ounces. Of course that depends on whose glass she is pouring. Mine or someone else's.
