quote: Agree....I just don't like the idea of football guys running a bball team. Maybe it'll work, but I'm not confident in that move. If Benson wanted to install different bball people who have worked extensively in the NBA, I'm ok with that. I understand the consolidation standpoint, but at the same time DL & ML are I'm sure getting raises with their new positions or both a Saints salary and a Hornets salary. Probably cheaper than HW, but maybe they could've kept HW with a pay cut. DL & ML need a time frame to learn how the NBA works and become familiar with it before they are full timers and have 100% ownership of their new roles imo. Reply Back to Top |
quote: They aren't really football guys. It's a lawyer and a bean counter. quote: Weber was one of the last remnants of Shinn. Most of the people sad to see him go point to him giving away tickets or talking to fans, they don't point out how well things were run, just the PR aspects of his job. Maybe I'm just being naive, but I really think the Saints staff will rely on the Hornets staff where it counts. I just can't see Loomis coming in and micromanaging Demps. He doesn't try to micromanage Payton, why would he try with Demps? One of the biggest fears I've seen people mention is ticket sales people. Apparently the Hornets reps are very accommodating, which you'd expect for a team in the situation they've been in. Hopefully the Saints organization will be smart enough and have a long enough memory to realize that selling tickets for a lottery team requires a different approach than selling tickets for a contender. quote: fair....i'm thinking there are some differences though in managing NFL vs. NBA teams. Hopefully the Hornets can pick up some pointers from the Saints where they need it but the Saints people don't try to push through concepts ideas that work in the NFL but wouldn't work in the NBA.I think a brilliant idea was the select-a-seat event for Saints season ticket holders. quote: Sometimes when there is a change in ownership, the remnants get micromanaged until they earn the trust of the new owners or perform their jobs the specification of the new owners consistently enough to the point where the new owners trust them. I just feel like Monty & Demps have earned the right through their performances last year facing what they faced to not be micromanaged by football people. I think my concern/fears are more out of respect for Dell & Monty having done a good job; I'm hoping the football people don't come in with the attitude of we've wona superbowl, we know how to build a winner, its my way or the highway attitude. I have no proof of that in the past but I could see how it could happen. I think Monty & Dell have earned the right to make the calls and Benson should give them enough string to hang themselves. quote: I think the public comments that have been made are very positive. quote: LINK 2 things stand out here. First, the reporter is arguing that Weber should keep his job and as we found out, that didn't happen. He didn't feel the need to defend Demps and Monty. Second, Benson was "enamored" with the job Demps and Monty have done. Not liked the job or was pleased, or happy with the job, but "enamored" with the job. That's a much stronger word than needed to be used. Probably about the only word that would be stronger would be "extension". I think you'd get 100% agreement here that what you fear is a bad thing, but I just have seen no evidence those fears are justified. What little evidence we do have points to the contrary unless you see Loomis being at the workouts as an ominous sign. Demps didn't seem to be too worried and even said they weren't talking about basketball. quote: LINK This post was edited on 6/19 at 12:39 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I agree with your thoughts on the situation. Just waiting for Monty and Demps to get their extensions. Reply Back to Top |
| well I'm hopefule my fears don't turn out to be true and don't seem to be based on the links Reply Back to Top |
| Today, I want them extended. If I'm Benson, I look at the roster now and adter a few weeks of free agency. Why extend now when one whale if an interview is ahead of them. And Monty is a factor in the 'sale' for any free agent or potentially disgruntled traded player. Reply Back to Top |
quote: What's the story behind this? I remember him posting about how he was sick of the hornets and some shite and that he was leaving, but then he turns around and creates another forum that isn't hornets-heavy, but still has to do with them. Was his farewell post just a save face? Reply Back to Top |
quote: I just don't like having coaches/GMs go into a season on their final year. Obviously its working for OKC with Brooks, but just give Demps/Monty a 2 year extension with a modest raise and I'm happy. Reply Back to Top |
| Harvey is a pompous dick who spends more time reading his own posts than that of other. good riddance... Reply Back to Top |
| Im glad to hear they got rid of weber. At the end of last season i had a horrible experience that was caused by his staff. He basically refused to deal with it and then finally left me a voicemail while i was in court that if it was important to me then i should have answered his call right then. Luckily i got it straightened out with the head of ticket retention or i would have canceled my season tickets Reply Back to Top |
Posted by JabarkusRussell on 6/20 at 6:01 pm to TigerinATL I could take or leave Demps. While he's made some good moves (dumping Mo-Pete and Posey) he also traded Collison for Ariza who we just dumped and traded a younger player (Thornton) who was a RFA for an older player who is not in our long-term plans. He also wanted to trade CP3 for a bunch of trash in older players with huge contracts. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Collison had huge value at the time, so he traded him for a position that James Posey started prior to that. quote: We needed a PF at the time and Marcus' play style got him minimal playing time. Both moves were necessary at the time. I can't fault him for the CP3 to LAL deal because he was handcuffed with CPme demanding that he only go to certain teams. Reply Back to Top |
| Plus, were we going to match Marcus' offers? Not that high. So who cares if he was restricted? We got more value for a longer term by making the move. And the Collison + Posey deal you mean... big difference. Now judge this new deal on what comes of it, bot imagined worst case scenarios.
