Basketball recruiting: Post Pollard discussion Posted by Bubba Hotep While I never thought we had much of a shot, LSU coaches apparently thought we did. Makes me wonder if the lack of recent news has been due to them waiting on Pollard to make a decision. With him off the board, I bet some chips start to fall. Johnny Jones has mentioned in several different interviews that he is interested in an additional post player and combo guard. He has also mentioned that a graduate transfer is a possibility. That leaves: John Odoh and Corban Collins as the only names we really know about. I believe they are talking to several graduate transfers. Currently at 9 scholarship players. I have to believe they will add at least one more, if not two. Reply Back to Top
What graduate transfers do you think they could be looking at? Reply Back to Top
Was surprised he wants another combo guard. Seems as though Stringer, Morgan and Hammink would be enough, especially with two being freshmen. But say we do end up with 11 scholarship players next year. Since you can have a total of 13 that means we carry forward two scholarships and then when Eddie graduates we can give out three for the 2013 season. I would have thought he would have held back one more with so many great players being available for 2013. Reply Back to Top
I think JJ feels the need to make a statement now. Also what better way to appeal to high level recruits then to show we ate on the rise. Also scholarships are not promised, so if need be, they can be pulled. Reply Back to Top
I'd like to get Udoh and call it. 10 scholarship players, build towards a big 2013 class. We hosted 3 Top 100 2013 players this last week Reply Back to Top
We all want Odoh, it just worries me about him maybe not be eligible till January. Reply Back to Top
Yeah another big and let's go. Save the rest for the next class. Reply Back to Top
I still agree that you pick up two guys if they aren't "fluff". We dont need a number, but if we get a player its worth it. Like others have said, we could pull a scholarship if need be. Im sure there are guys who are from Louisiana that could get tops and go with that. And you never know if JOB tries to leave early or if we have transfers/flunk outs then we will have room in next years class. This post was edited on 6/1 at 10:36 pm Reply Back to Top
@ScarboroughMike: Recruiting info on a center that #LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones is pursuing. Anybody with a subscription know what this says? Anything new? Reply Back to Top
No new info. Just says Odoh is in summer school at Hill and has no updates on his recruitment. I believe LSU is waiting until he graduates after summer school to offer him. Reply Back to Top
| Odoh would make 10. If the combo guard is a graduate transfer, it would have no negative impact on scholarships for next year. In looking at the graduate transfer list, there are virtually no quality big men, but tons of guards. I would be happy just adding Odoh or some other post player. I think our guards are OK. | Too bad about Pollard, but the Tigers did enter the fray a bit late--still put forth a great effort to land him. It looks like a big man is the top priority and should something happen so that Odoh can't make it to LSU, is there any other post player on the horizon that the Tigers can get with not that much time remaining? | Bubba, When does the LSU summer session start? Except for Odoh, won't that be the first time this staff gets to personally evaluate the new players like Coleman, Godfrey, Hammink, Morgan ... as well as holdovers O'Bryant, Hickey, Stringer, et al? Reply Back to Top |
i know the summer session for school starts this Monday Reply Back to Top
Jeff Goodman of CBSsports.com keeps an updated list. You can google it. It is in the 2012 thread somewhere. Reply Back to Top
A post player is a top priority, but I don't mind the addition of a combo guard to this class. It'd be nice to find a graduate transfer to fill that combo guard spot. Reply Back to Top
quote: Hmmm, you'd definitely like at least one more player regardless of what position it is. quote: Hmmm, it makes it sound like we will be runnin' and gunnin' a lot this year. quote: That could be interesting. I'm not sure who that would be. Don't graduate transfers only have a year to play? We need another big regardless. I really hope Odoh works out. quote: Any word on him? Reply Back to Top |
Post pollard depression :( Reply Back to Top
LINK See above for transfer list, with graduate transfers indicated. Notice the lack of post players. Yes, they have only one year. Nothing on Trocha. This post was edited on 6/2 at 3:07 pm Reply Back to Top Refresh
