| 7 year old playing travel ball (coach pitch)UPDATE pg10 Posted by tgrbaitn08 Your thoughts? We turned down the travel team this summer because I feel he's still learning the basics, and even though he's good enough for the travel team, at the end of the day it's still coach pitch and not much more competitiveness than rec ball. Then with rec ball, summer camp, baseball camp and the sports camp...if he had to travel on weekends and practice during the week for travel ball he would be dealing with burn out and wouldn't want to play in the fall. Should I have put him in travel league or by holding him back is he going to fall behind some of the other kids? This post was edited on 5/24 at 4:35 pm Reply Back to Top |

| Vlad Guerrero did just fine learning to play with a broom stick and milk carton. Seems bit extreme for 7 year old. Reply Back to Top |

quote: yeah, we plan to do some fishing on the weekends when he's not having rec games..... travel games are every weekend..frick that noise Reply Back to Top |
| if it's still coach pitch i can see not. wait til it's kid pitch then go form there. however if parks are as political as i have heard some being, then not being in that group initially may hurt him. doesn't always happen but it could. Reply Back to Top |
| That's too damn young. Reply Back to Top |
| Push him to the max but I never even played coach pitch. That's pussy shite. Was in minor league ball at 7 and playing major Little League at 8 and I turned out OK....I think. This post was edited on 5/16 at 11:21 am Reply Back to Top |
| travel ball for 7 year olds? wow Reply Back to Top |
| Coach pitch travel ball is pretty far out there. We didn't play machine pitch travel either. Reply Back to Top |
quote: thats my stance quote: this is exactly how it is in this league....BUT I am a coach in the rec league and know a lot of the guys that coach the travel team....they know my son is good enough to play travel and know that we opted out for a reason. Reply Back to Top |
| I don't think he'll fall behind with all the other things he's going to be doing. Either way, I don't think he'll get burned out on baseball no matter how much he plays. At least that was the case with me and I played the hell out of it. When I wasn't on a team I was playing at the park, when they all went home I'd go home and throw off the garage with a tennis ball and a super ball and when my dad beat the shite out of me for denting his garage wall, he put up an old door in the back yard and I'd plaster it ... quote: yep, there is one team for the 7 year old and 2 teams for the 8 year old (a red and a blue team)...both are coach pitch Reply Back to Top |
| Are they past the stage of EVERYONE being safe and no one gets out, at that age? Reply Back to Top |
quote: Our park is uber-political too. It sounds like you will be OK as long as you are in with the other coaches though. Does your park have all star teams? I would opt for that over travel ball as his age. Reply Back to Top |
quote: no...it's legit....the only difference is we play with 4 outfielders...the kids get a max of 7 pitches...3 strikes and they're out....no walks Reply Back to Top Refresh |
