re: More Evidence Unraveling-The Ornstein E-mail

Does anyone know if Goodell was a lawyer before he became employed by the NFL. I know many commissioners have been lawyers prior to their stint as commissioner and I am wondering if the same goes for Goodell.
If he was than this makes this even more outrageous. That a lawyer would go off of this bullshitee evidence and penalize a million dollar entity in this way. It's clear that if this whole situation was put in front of a judge it would be sent back to Goodell in a split second and they'd laugh in his face.

It is truly unbelievable that such a large organization (N.O. Saints) can be crumbled by one man's interpretation of unworthy, misconstrued acts.
Impeach Goodell and get REVENGE.

At least this article is now on the front pages of all of the major internet sports sites.

The fact that everything goes directly thru Goddell is the thing that if find most distasteful. It is hard to believe Goddell can control such total and absolute power. It even harder to believe the the players agreed to the CBA.

exactly, this is america, wtf happened to the systems of checks and balances??

Goddell is starting to look more and more like gilda radner as emily litella. In a few weeks I can see him saying, "Never Mind".

Emily Litella

Do you not know how private companies work?

That is one of the strangest things about this whole bounty gate mess. The Loomis and all the coaches just quietly bend over and take it up the butt. They all meekly accept what Goddell dishes out. Yet the players lawyer up and call the NFL out. Seems like the players may be finding some major cracks in the NFL line.

The players have a union. The coaches and gm's do not.

not saying what he's doing is illegal smartass, just saying that there's no way that the NFL or the NFLPA should have let one man get so much power without giving another group the ability to veto tyranny

Yeah, because there has never been a company in history that was run by a single person with unquestionable power...There's nothing wrong with being butt hurt because Goodell is screwing Saints fans good, but there's no need to start making shite up like Goodell does.

It may be a private company, but it has a serious public relations problem. Most opposing fans are dicks, and just wanna say "You got caught, get over it," but there's a lot of stink going on. I'm not too happy about it.

Digging Ornstein info up opens up a can of worms. As reported by Deadspin two months ago, Ornstein supposedly funded the "bounty program." But if that's the case, why was Jonathan Vilma suspended for an entire season for funding the program?

This isn't the 1930s. There also these things called injunctions that aren't very nice either. Nobody cares about all that power unless it's used in a way that isn't in the company's best interest or if it affects the company in an extremely negative light.

You're seeing both of these conditions slowly make their way up to the surface. Screw the movie......it's time to just make a soap opera.

understatement of the Damn century.

As someone pointed out earlier somewhere, if Drew Brees came out and said its bull shite ( he basically did) then I BELIEVE it is bull shite...

I trust brees that much.

That is just the tip of the ice berg as to why i think this whole pay to injure with all the 50k pages of evidence is bull shite to the fullest extent

It isn't a private business, but didn't Bobby Jindal just get the LSU president fired basically because he didn't do exactly what Jindal told him to do? Yes, he could be an abrasive jerk (like Payton is to Goodell), but could Lombardi do anything about it when all was said and done?

so why did Loomis and Payton say this?

quote:

“We acknowledge that the violations disclosed by the NFL during their investigation of our club happened under our watch. We take full responsibility. This has brought undue hardship on Mr. Benson, who had nothing to do with this activity. He has been nothing but supportive and for that we both apologize to him.

“These are serious violations and we understand the negative impact it has had on our game. Both of us have made it clear within our organization that this will never happen again, and make that same promise to the NFL and most importantly to all of our fans.”

The delusion runs strong amongst the True Believers.

That email was cited by MANY people who felt that the Payton suspension was merited...
