| re: If NFL only suspn'd Vilma 4-6 games and Smith/Fujita/Hargrove 1-2 games,.... That's not the point. People were still shocked. The NFL making a statement with the suspensions is one of the things that has kept it in the news, which is the question in the OP. Reply Back to Top |

| That doesn't have shite to do with shite. It got peoples attention. It stayed in the news. It kept being a story. That was the question in your OP right? Peoples opinions about it is irrelevant. You posed the question for the players suspensions. Well Goodell really made the statement by suspending Payton for a whole season. The players suspensions wasn't nearly as a shock, but unlike the coaches, the players have some ways to fight this. The players would have appeal and demanded evidence anyway because of WHAT they're being accused of. Reply Back to Top |
| If he had given payton 8 games, vilma 8 games, smith, Hargrove, and fujita 2 games everyone would have gotten the message, and all this would have blown over long ago. Reply Back to Top |
quote: In the beginning, the NFL was getting the positive press it wanted; however, now the tide has turned and now the NFL is looking bad. If the NFL quit when it was ahead (after the coaches suspensions) and just done light suspensions on players, the NFL would have come out smelling like roses. They would have made a VERY STRONG stance about the severity of bounties and player safety (knowing good and well that the coaches really would NOT push back and just take whatever punishment was handed down) and still had the fans (obviously Saints fans excluded but everyone else) and media on their side. IMO, NFL giving light suspensions or even fines for the players could have been totally justifiable bc of: 1.pressure from the coaches 2. no data that backs up on the field that Saints actually paid off any bounties Reply Back to Top |
quote: I respectfully disagree. They doled out unprecedented punishments. They made it the huge story it is because of that. The players were going to fight the suspensions no matter what. Reply Back to Top |
| It has gone away from the public consciousness. If you're talking about this board letting it go, no way. The fans on here would never accept any kind of punishment. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
