re: Teach a man to Fish (Fark Board Beginner Questions)quote: I haven't started with gifs yet, just curious of the basic process/programs you use to get your footage. I really like the ones you do with the stationary heads I guess the main questions I have are: -are you using video clips then making gifs? -do you go frame by frame to add the face? -I have photoshop/premier elements 10, will this be enough to do what you do? TIA Reply Back to Top |
quote: I use a variety of sources/methods depending on what it is I'm doing. Existing GIFs, pull from YouTube, rip from DVD/Bluray, MKV pulled from usenet, still images modified/animated, etc. quote: Yes, for the most part. Sometimes you can use actions (macros) to make things go faster. quote: Not sure. I still use ImageReady. Maybe someone else can answer? Or try searching for tutorials. As a starting point, give me an example of what you are looking to do and I will dig into details. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Lets just go with RR down the stairs into the sunglasses. Seems like one of your simpler ones..... Reply Back to Top |

| Hahaha you make it look easy I guess. Thanks I really appreciate it Reply Back to Top |
| Here are the basics to the Deal With It RR Stairs gif: 1 - SOURCE VIDEO This was a GIF file already, so there was no need to pull/convert video. Just open it up, crop out the black border and delete the unwanted frames. 2 - RUEBEN RANDEL Pull in RR transparency to a new layer that is above all video layers. Make the RR layer visible on the last video frame and size/place it. You want to start with the last video frame and work backwards because all non video layers have to be in a specific place for the freeze at the end. Now just step backward frame by frame making the RR layer visible and size/place/rotate it as you go. Anytime there is a change in size or rotation, copy the previous RR layer and make adjustments. This needs to be done because placement location of a layer can be unique by frame, but size/rotation can't. 3 - GLASSES Pull in glasses transparency to a new layer that is above all video layers and any RR layers. Make the glasses layer visible on the last video frame and size/place it. Now just step backward frame by frame making the glasses layer visible and place it as you go. I wanted the glasses to be floating in a spot and RR would move into the glasses for the last freeze frame. I just chose a spot on the wall and placed the glasses to line up with that spot in each frame. 4 - DEAL WITH IT Create a text layer above all other layers. Make it visible on the last frame and place it. Hope that helps. I'm not sure how things will match up to your software in terms of functions/methods...but if you have any questions, just let me know. Reply Back to Top |
| thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try and post something whenever I finish Reply Back to Top |

| This is gonna make it seem like I never used a computer before, but how do you take the files from photoshop and turn them into gifs? I added text to a gif but it is saving it as a .prel WTF is that? Reply Back to Top |
| File > Save for Web. Make sure file name ends in .gif This post was edited on 5/9 at 11:10 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I don't see that. This is Premier Elements 10 if that helps. can you edit gifs on regular photoshop? Reply Back to Top |

quote: Yes...but you can't animate with it. You can edit layers, but there is no functionality for frames that I know of. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I found this out last night, unfortunately. So here is the situation: I took a gif, added text. saved it as .prel (the only option). are there converters or something to turn it into a gif? What Vol told me to do only worked in photoshop, not for premier. This post was edited on 5/10 at 10:56 am Reply Back to Top |
| I don't know. Is there an export function? I would search Adobe Product Support...you can't be the first one that has run into this. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Cool! I'm going to take that GIF, flip it and make some as well. Good stuff. Reply Back to Top |

| Anyone familiar with GIMP would have any idea why it would all of a sudden stop letting me edit images? When I try to do gifs, I'm having to save each frame to a folder and then open and edit them separately instead of being able to just edit it frame by frame within a single project.
