I think Pollard is still in play but I'm certainly not getting my hopes up. It certainly can't hurt us if he keeps delaying his decision.

With Odoh I am very happy with the lineup, but I still think JOB will be better suited playing against 4's and having to move him to 5, while it isn't the end of the world, would be something I'd rather not do. That's the only reason I say we have any depth issues at all. Kinda like a Taz Mitchell situation where he was good at 2 positions but I'd rather him where he was.

Overall, I would be amazingly happy with the team given Odoh. Even without him I feel like we have made a major jump of talent from last year, especially if we can get Stringer and Turner to hit some three's again.

I think too much gets made of the difference between the 4 and the 5. It's not that big of a deal.

Signing Odoh would leave us with a a rotation of three major players at the 2 spots. That is essentially what we had last year -- Ham, JOB and Storm. Malcolm's few minutes wouild have to be filled by Courtney or Ludwig, or Coleman in a smaller lineup.

Don't most college teams play two 4s? (Ex: Big Baby and TT were both 4s.) Few teams get true 7 foot centers.

Is Odoh a better player in your opinion than say Malcolm White?

I gotta be honest, i don't see why people are saying this. LSU would make room for this guy. And he just delayed his commitment and LSU's name has popped up in articles.

I don't think its the case at all.

Is there a chance also someone like Courtney transferring out before next year?

If we get Pollard, LSU basketball is a tourney team next year. It's wishful thinking, but nice to think about nonetheless.

he can't be worse

so do we have one or two more spots that can be filled? Is there room for Odoh and Pollard without attrition? TIA

On paper and on what limited video is available, yes. But, how he would transition to the SEC remains to be seen.

Johnny Jones and Shawn Forrest have been recruiting and scouting him for more than a year. If LSU pursues him, and is successful, I would have to believe that they think he is capable of starting. I don't think they would bring him in as a backup.

Your probably right there. I am just worried about JOB guarding more post up oriented players, which I think he has a tendency to foul. I agree it's not as big of a jump as the 4 to 3 that we had with Taz. And I also don't see much of a difference from 3 to 2 like we will probably be doing with Turner.

People are saying this because Godfrey, who plays essentially the same position, basically came out of nowhere to sign with us. Usually not a good sign.

Yeah, it's not a matter of space. It's a matter of LSU was likely keeping Godfrey on hold until they felt like they were out of it for Pollard.

And, FTR, LSU now has two scholarships available, assuming no attrition.

13 allowed
7 returning
4 signees
1 walk-on

no question that we would take both pollard and odoh. scholarships are only year to year now. The one advantage with courtney is that we can play him at the 4 if need be. Right now the way things stand we still have very little depth up front. Eddie can play a few minutes here and there but we have to have at least one more post player. two would be great but we need at least one more. If god forbid JOB or Godfrey gets hurt suddenly you are looking at basically a 4 guard lineup out there for some stretches of the game. Thats what killed us this year after JOB got hurt, Storm and Malcolm both were foul prone and sometimes Justin was by himself up front. No way you dont take both pollard and odoh if you can get them both.

No one is saying we wouldnt take both. Simply that it is unlikely.

Also, scholarships have always been 1 year. Not something new.

Easily IMO. If we get Odoh or another solid big man I see us making the tournament easily. I expect this roster (as it stands now) to be an improvement from last years.

It looks that way on paper. The sad thing is that CJJ was able to do this in about a two months time and revamp a roster to make it better. Trent didn't do anything of this nature over years.

I have a feeling JJones could have won 9 SEC games with the lineup we had last year... Now with some upgrades at a few positions, I could see him doing a game or two better than that. Here's to hoping that we can get 1 more post player (4 or 5) to round out what has become a very inspiring class.
