Lyme disease
Posted by tipup on 5/7 at 9:03 am
Anyone ever have it and how long did it take to get better?

Apparently I picked up a tick on my scalp a few weeks ago while turkey hunting, found it this morning. Last week I started with fever, aches, headaches and I am always tired but cant sleep. This morning was the kicker when my wife called me at work wondering where the new gallon of milk was. Apparently I put the cereal and the milk in the pantry.

I have a dr.'s apointment at 1:00.

depends on how early you get treatment. It can take a long time. Hope you are alright

Damn man, prayers sent.

It can spread to your heart and nervous system if not treated early. My uncle had it and had to be on intravenous IV with antibiotics for almost a month.

Where were you turkey hunting?

Lymes disease is fairly rare in the south but certainly increases as you go north.

Like i said. My uncle was in the hospital for 34 days about 10 years ago with that stuff, they said he had permanent heart damage from it. He passed away last year from unrelated issues with diabetes. He was 61.

But Lyme disease is nothing to frick with, like BP said its extremely rare in the south but it can be extremely dangerous if not treated.

I was always worried about it in the woods. For a while, I came home with between 5 and 10 ticks on me every day. Tucking in your pants and spraying Off cut this down a whole bunch. Every time I would forget to do one or the other, I would have them everywhere.

I used to get them on my legs and around my waistline mostly, and an occasional one behind my ears, but never on my head

I've been bitten a couple times but they've never been able to burrow. I believe when they burrow you're more likely to contract Lyme.

my uncle had it and he was laid up for a while. he was in relatively good shape for a fella in his late 40s.

just follow the doctor's orders. i know that ain't always easy, but it will be worth it in the end.

Sorry, Ranch. 61 is far too young.

I'm pretty sure Lyme doesn't have a cure. And you have to have the tick on you for longer than 48 hours to even have a chance at catching it. Most of the times it has to be longer than 72 hours.

I did extensive research after getting a tick 2 years ago. I'm no doctor, but I'd say it's unlikely you got Lyme.

Apparently I'm way off with the "no cure" comment. But it sucks balls either way if you got it.

I could see how you wouldnt notice a tick in certain spots for a while, but how did you miss it on your head? Was it just right in the wrong spot?
Also curious what your Dr says...

Way off, it's a bacterium that is treated with antibiotics

I just went to the dr a few weeks ago after a bite. I noticed mine on my chest in the mirror after a shower. I thought "I don't remember having that mole". Sucker was locked on good. Its been over 3 weeks now, and I still have the remnants of the hard knot that is left. But I had no other swelling, bullseye redness pattern or any other symptoms. Dr told me like others have said, it's extremely rare in LA and they generally don't dfo anything unless Lyme symptoms develop. Told me to go in immediatley if I got headaches, dizziness, swelling of the lymph nodes, redness, etc.
