| Vietnamese Food in New Orleans Posted by Burt Reynolds I just got back from Dong Phuong in New Orleans East on Chef Menseur Hwy and it was the best Vietnamese Poboy I've ever had. They have a bakery attached to the restaurant with nothing but Vietnamese people. The bakery bakes all of the bread for the Vietnamese restaurants in NOLA. The sandwich only cost $2.85 and should be a delicacy. They also had a choice of shrimp meatballs . There are two more restaurants in St. Bernard Parish that I'm going back to try, Ba Mien and Banh Mi Sao Mai. I also have heard that Kim Son in Gretna has the best Pho from one of my Vietnamese friends. I was always a huge Hoa Hong 9 (nine roses) fan but this place is absolutely incredible. Any feedback on this subject would be great since I'm on a Vietnamese binge right now. This post was edited on 5/6 at 3:11 pm Reply Back to Top |
| Banh mi sao mai is awesome! Get the fully loaded po boy. Reply Back to Top |
| I go there almost every other week for the Bahn Mi. I also pick up treats for the wife/kids. The coconut macaroons are awesome and I don't like coconut. I also like Tahn Din (bun) and Pho Tau Bay (pho) on the Westbank. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I was about to go there today but I had trouble finding it. I will have to try it next time. The only problem is the drive because I live in garden district and Pho Noi Viet down the street hasn't been that good, pretty mediocre. I have yet to try Lilly's Cafe and the other Vietnamese place that opened on magazine and Napoleon. I can't remember the name of it. Reply Back to Top |
| FYI all the places out by dong phuong are in orleans parish...that is New Orleans East. Hi Do Bakery is pretty good on the westbank too. Reply Back to Top |
| That place is awesome. Every time I go home I go there Reply Back to Top |
| Dong phuong is my favorite Vietnamese place in Nola. I always get about 4 banh mi's and 10 breads to go. That bread is the best I've had anywhere. Not only do they ship it out to other Nola businesses, but baton rouge businesses as well. The place is literally a gold mine. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I know, I was going to buy 4 or 5 more of those delicious cold cut or pork poboys cause they looked like they would keep well but i forgot but that gives me a reason to go back i guess Reply Back to Top |
quote: THey do, but if you are getting multiple banh mi and plan to eat them over the span of a few days, besure to ask them to put the vegetables in a separate container. This way you can throw it in an oven later and won't have to take the vegetables out. Reply Back to Top |
| Dong Phuong supplies bread all over the area and several po boy shops use them. I went on a Vietnamese bender this past winter and ate Pho just about everywhere. Only place I still need to try is Pho Tau Bay or whatever it's called in Gretna. IMO Kim Ahn is got the best Pho in the area. It's my favorite restaurant at the moment and the entire menu is good. I'm in there 2-3 times a week easily. I could eat there everyday for lunch and not spend $50 all week including tip. Reply Back to Top |

We went to 9 Roses in Gretna this morning and ordered a ridiculous amount of food. They had everything and it was incredible...........except no Bahn Mi. It's called Hoa Hong 9 I'll post pictures and review tomorrow What's everyone usually get from this place? Reply Back to Top |

Burt, Kim Ahn is on Jefferson hwy across from whatever the Harahan bowling is called. quote: I haven't been to La Profecia in awhile b/c I've been trying to eat healthy for lunch, it's impossible to go in there and not get a pupusa. I only go to Kim Ahn before 12 or after 1 otherwise the place is just too crowded. Reply Back to Top |
