| Does the Past 13 Years Change the Perception of LSU Football Forever? Since 2000, LSU has won 4 SEC Championships, 2 National Championships, and has been consistently ranked in the top 10. Our overall record is 123-34 for a winning percentage of 78.3%. We have had 7 10 win seasons with another sure to follow. This season, we will open ranked in the top 2 with another national championship run. LSU has always been good at football and has a storied history, being one of the top 15 programs all-time. But, does this run push us clearly into the top 7-8 programs as far as prestige? How long do we have to keep this run going until we are seen in the same light as an Ohio State or Texas or Oklahoma? 5-7 more years? 10 more years? Or, are we there? I am talking about historically speaking so that when LSU has down years again in the future (like all teams do), the expectation by the whole nation is that we will return to prominence because that is just who LSU is? | 10 more years Id say. We get some OOS recruits but we still dont draw like the Bamas, USC's, etc. Reply Back to Top |
| The next 5 years will determine this. And I think it will be a very good 5 years Reply Back to Top |
| The greatest thing to me that has transpired is the fact that LSU gets respect. That's all we can ask for. It's encouraging to know that year in and year out, we can expect a winning season. There are many other institutions that would love to be in LSU's shoes. Reply Back to Top |
| I think the Canes are a good benchmark. They were elite for about 15 years. They're down now and I don't believe they'll be back. So maybe 2 decades (approx. a generation) of being elite? Of course, the current scandals has a lot to do with that but Bama bounced back from theirs. USC did as well. Reply Back to Top |
quote: With the talent in S. Florida all it will take is the right coach. The Canes were down in the late 90s and were stronger then ever early 2000s. Reply Back to Top |
| People these days do think that anyone can win at LSU. They have easily forgotten how that logic did not work for Archer and Hallman. Reply Back to Top |
| This isn't the end-all be-all, but it is one measure to put some objectivity in this discussion. LINK Reply Back to Top |
| we're top 10 all time easy. Only 2nd behind bama in conference and bama is easily number 1 all time nationally. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Where would you have Florida ranked? Don't they have more championships (national titles and SEC titles) than LSU? Reply Back to Top |
| LSU and Florida both have 3 NC's and LSU has 11 SEC titles compared to 8 for Florida. Reply Back to Top |

quote: I take from this that LSU was a sleeping giant in the shadow of the Bear and Spurrier. And Dinardo and Saban woke us up, and Miles has a chance to be legendary if he keeps this team at this elite level for a few more years... If it wasn't for Les and LSU, this decade (past and coming) would easily be all about Nicky. Reply Back to Top |
| I think LSU is already on the map nationally... But being a contender for championships the next 5 years maybe 10 will solidify LSU as a "historically great" football program Reply Back to Top |
| We need to win another one next fall. One more SEC and NC and we are a solid number 2 in the SEC and a top 5 program nationally. Reply Back to Top |
| We're there. LSU has had enough consecutive years of greatness since modern fans can remember (50's - 2011), that it can erase the inept (1980-84, 1990-1994, etc) in the media's mind IMO. Reply Back to Top |
| No matter what the future brings the Tigers, I will forever be grateful for those actual 13 years. I will not be greedy but it's hard not to expect excellence year in and year out. Reply Back to Top |
| I tell my kids all the time how lucky they are to be growing up the last 10 years as LSU fans. I had to go through College in the 1979-1987 years. Brutal. But I was there every Saturday night. I still remember yelling at an OM fan that even at our worst we still better than OM. Reply Back to Top |
| Florida State had a pretty good run too. Two ships and fourteen consecutive seasons with 10+ wins. Miami has five ships, I think. LSU is definitely an elite program. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
