5 things the Hornets must do to get back in the playoffs
Posted by drake20 on 4/30 at 2:37 pm
1. Sign and trade Eric Gordon for Paul George

2. Draft Andre Drummond

3. Draft Jeremy Lamb

4. Extend Monty Williams

5. Play Drummond and Lamb 30 MPG.

...per bleacher report. doesn't really seem like a playoff formula to me. Hornets talk is really dead.

Bleacher report is the worst sports website on the net.

PF: Emeka Okafor (24 MPG), Gustavo Ayon (20 MPG), Jason Smith (4 MPG)

Okafor has been solid for the Hornets, and will start next to the young players and be a role model.

Does this person even watch basketball??

So trade our best scorer for someone to come off the bench and play 8 mpg....solid decision.

I was disappointed that you linked to bleacherreport rather than giving us your own top 5 list.

1) Hire a better medical/training staff, not necessarily knocking their inability to heal tank wounds, but I always hear about how amazing Phoenix's medical staff is at keeping guys like Nash and Hill going. If we plan to have an injury prone star, seems like we could use a top notch medical staff like that.

2) Extend Demps and Williams before Free Agency starts, that should help attract more FAs.

3) Make at least 1 trade on draft night. Whether it's the first or 2nd pick, or even a package of young guys like Aminu, Vasquez or Henry, we will have too many young guys that need to develop and not enough minutes to go around in a non tank year if we stand pat and add 2 rookies.

4) Get a starting caliber post scorer that can draw a double, whether that's resigning Kaman, drafting TRob or trading for a guy like Aldridge or Milsap.

5) Get the rebrand done. A "new" team that's more "local" will attract more people to the games giving the Hornets a better home court advantage.

This would keep us out of the playoffs for 5 years.

i thought that the first time i looked at it too, but it actually puts all of George's minutes at the SF spot, so it's not as bad as I initially thought

1. Win the Lottery, draft AD
2. Resign EG
3. Lower concessions prices so I get more drunk during games.
4. Tank some so it isn't obvious we're fricking with the rims.
5. Resign king cake baby,

my 5 things for the Hornets to make playoffs:

1.Extend Monty Williams. This is hopefully on everyone's list.

2.Draft Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond. This goes with the point that we need a legitimate post player. I think either of these guys can get it done, and unfortunately, I don't think Kaman will be back.

3.Trade the second pick. Package it with Jack or Okafor or Ariza or some combination of the three to net a good player. I like Rondo. He and Gordon would be a dynamite backcourt duo imo. We might have to be willing to part with the first pick in order to get a guy like Rondo, however.

4. Three point shooting...Sign a FA that can knock down the three. Terrible three point shooting at the SF position. Gordon and Jack are ok but not great. Marco is our best three point shooter, and he has his problems. A solid player that can come off the bench or get in late in games with ice in his veins.

5. Most likely, we won't get Anthony Davis. If the Hornets then draft Drummond like I would like, we should re-sign Carl Landry. Great backup veteran who can get you points and hustle off the bench. If we draft a PF though, we don't need 4 PFs on the roster.

6. Re-sign Gordon...forgot about this one for a second. Gordon is a star. We need to build around him. Re-signing him and extending Monty are hopefully the top two priorities this offseason.

...I also liked your point about upgrading the medical staff ATL.
