re: I'd like to apologize to the board re: Roman Harper's draft selectionquote: Its not my defense. Your boy brought harper up and is trashing barron's coverage skills like roman's. I provided logic into this discussion. I also compared him to Bama's strongest cover corner drafted in 1st round. Which other strong safety would you like me to make statistical comparisons to? quote: My "BOY" said if Mark Barron was the #7 pick in the draft that justifies Harper being pick in the 60's The fact that he has somewhat better stats than a Roman Harper, while playing on a defense that was much more stacked than Harpers, is just proof he went to high. Compare him to other safeties that went in the top 10 the last 10 years. Also throw in his measurements. Did he have a Laron Landry like combine where scouts were just blown away? Reply Back to Top |

| Nice pics. And Sean Taylor was among the best at the position. Reply Back to Top |
| TRUTH. Of all the safties taken in the top 15 picks or so over the last decade, and it's a small pool I admit, Taylor was only one that the going into draft deserved to be that high IMO. Reply Back to Top |
| watching sean taylor play FS for Miami gave me hope in humanity again Reply Back to Top |

| Mark Barron was third in the entire nation his soph. year in interceptions and and sixth in passes deflected. He obviously blows in coverage and sucks at run support. Why anyone would draft him is beyond me. We get it... You hate Roman Harper, Mark Ingram and now for some reason you feel like Bagging on The Bucs pick. No bias to your shitty draft analysis at all. | Mark Barron Pick 7 Brian Dawkins Pick 61 Ronnie Lott Pick 10 Rod Woodson Pick 10 Lawyer Milloy Pick 36 Rodney Harrison Pick 136 Darren Sharper Pick 60 Sean Taylor Pick 5 Ed Reed Pick 24 Troy Polamalu Pick 16 You sure about Barron at 7? Reply Back to Top |
| You realize that list has both SS and FSs on it, right? Reply Back to Top |
| Barron is pretty good but I don't think he is worth a Top 10 pick. When I caught a few Bama games with some friends last year, they were saying how they thought Saban protected Barron in coverage last year and that allowed him to excel in the box. They could be on to something or they may not now what the hell they are talking about. He did have more interceptions back in 2009 I think. When you are able to pressure the QB like they do though, guess what, you're gonna get some turnovers. You can't compare the defenses that Roman played on and the ones that Barron played on. Barron's situation had him around better talent and better coaching. This post was edited on 4/27 at 3:39 pm Reply Back to Top |
| Barron was my first Saints mock pick at #24 for 2011. It was before Harper was re-signed and he had not yet declared to return to bama. Hated Claiborne going to Dallas but even more glad he didn't go to TB in our division. Barron is pretty Harper-like in my estimation. Zoomed up boards IMO because of the extreme shortage of solid safeties in this class. In true value looks like a late 1st Rder at best. Reply Back to Top |
quote:Yes the point of the post is to show recent Hall of Fame and all-pro safeties and all of them except one was drafted after Barron in the first round. Therefore, the Bucs overvalued the position of safety and in order to live up to his draft position Barron will have to be a hall of famer! Reply Back to Top Refresh |
