This guy was an idiot. You really can say A LOT on FB and not get in trouble. But for fricks sake, you're not gonna get far saying you will refuse to follow orders

That I agree with, but you wrote:

He'll be able to take it to an attorney in about 6 months and get it upgraded. It's done all the time.

The fact is less than 25% of the appeals get reversed, and this guy has a crappy case. The odds IMHO are huguely against him getting a reversal. He's guilty. What they did was within the regs, the Board isn't going to substitute its judgment for the commander on how it should have been handled. That is not there job, they are to reverse manifest error.

I do too. I can't stand Obama. But as a uniformed military person, you must respect the office if not the person. Don't want to do that? Get out of the military. He could have got the same discharge by breaking his contract, and been free to spout whatever he liked.

give him a discharge that doesnt prohibit his ability to get a job in the future.
why?

Getting out before your time is punitive by definition except in special circumstances.

Don't get benefits if you miss weight too much either which I think it pretty insane. They will deploy your arse if you're 800 pounds though.

There is no such "definition" and there are more ways to get out early that are nonpunitive (administrative) than punitive, all early discharges require special circumstances. And the fact is an OTH is administrative and non-punative.

He knew what he was doing was wrong and was trying to skirt the line for whatever purpose. He deserves whatever he gets.

It is also BS, non-compliance for weight gets you an Honorable discharge, and a perhaps a General on very rare occassions if you were an extreme frick up. You also have two years to get yor fat arse in shape to be able to try to re-enlist at the old grade (but acceptance is based upon the needs of the service).

Fat asses will more likely get a bar to re-enlistment rather than a discharrge for the convenience of the government.

No benefits are lost unless you call not being allowed to continue to soldier as a fat arse a deprivation of rights.

This country is so divided it isn't even funny anymore.

I think with this presidency we went back at least 25 years along the lines of bipartisanship/racial tensions.

Now it has made it's way to the military. From field Generals to privates, everyone is getting in on the action.

I think it has alot to do with this President: his policies, his arrogance, maybe his color, not too much, and his party affiliation.

I think a black republican president would have been way better because the left and all the civil-righters would have held their tounge a little more on jumping to conclusions. And the GOP just embraces their own regardless.

Problems

I couldn't have said it better.

It's not the same, but anything besides Honorable or Medical means your fricked in your post-military career. Nobody is going to hire you for anything legit. But as was stated by the COL quoted in the article, this guy probably has a future in talk radio

I disagree, to an extent. I think the blacks on the Left would be quite vocal with constant cries of "Uncle Tom" from the ignorant that have no idea what the book was actually about. Those that have read it would call him "Uncle Ruckus"

If everyone had been on the internet in 1992-94 when we had a pot-smoking, draft-dodging womanizer who had said he "loathed" the military, I think you would have seen much worse.

I make my weight and pt standards.

Good to know though. I thought it was a general therefore barring you from benefits.
