Fox executives know how great the show is. They also know that incurring a loss in the short run will pay out more in the long run. Fringe is destined to be a cult classic TV show, because of that they know they can make more money in the future.

"In recent years, the 100-episode milestone for syndication has been lowered to 88 episodes. Shows approaching the 88-episode target are often renewed despite low ratings in order to ensure syndication. Production companies can offer discounts on licensing fees to networks to encourage renewal.[4]
Shows that are approaching the 88-episode syndication milestone but get poor ratings are often moved to graveyard slots on Friday or Saturday in order to burn off remaining episodes."

If it makes you feel any better, syfy thrillers like Fringe have a better chance at 100 episodes than a show like chuck.

Syndication on SyFy is pretty much guaranteed already, but most other networks prefer a 100 episodes because of scheduling. Syndicating on more than one network is way more profitable to Fox. Plus they'll be one episode short, only 87.

So this weeks episode is just around the corner, this Friday is my Birthday Fear, so there is a 99.9% chance I wont be able to watch it live, because everyone and their Grandmom is going to want me to go out with me.. so you start this weeks thread!
