| MLB The Show 2012 (venting) Posted by Doldil Playing RTTS: I created a fast CF because I'm very average with my power hitters. I figure if I can't drive in the runs, I should create the runs. So I have my CF and let me just say that stealing bases in this game is about 50 million times easier (so far) than previous versions. I can actually steal when I see the pitcher move to the plate. That's great and all, but here's my big problem...I made my guy as a contact hitter. He has no power at all, and I probably bunt 30% of the time I'm at the plate. It doesn't matter how perfect a bunt I lay down and actually get a single out of it, I always get rewarded with an "ok at bat" netting me about 3 points. Here's the scenario. Man on 2nd, 0 outs, I lay down a bunt to the third base line and beat it out. 3 points for an OK at bat. Had I have been thrown out, I would have received upwards of 12+ points for a good at bat for getting a successful sacrifice. WHAT THE frick!!!! If I get on base in any way shape or form, it should be a good at bat. I don't give a shite that I got a "weak hit", I still got on base and should be rewarded as such. Now- if I'm playing one of my "power hitters" I can hit long fly balls for outs and still get good at bats, thus more points, more constantly with a .250 batting average than my speedy contact hitter that is batting .320+, it makes me want to beat little kids. TLDR Version: Bunt singles should count as good at bats, and they don't. Reply Back to Top |
| I had a 20 inning game yesterday in which I had, wait for it, 3 hits. My team won 1-0 (frick you, Milwaukee!) after I said frick it and simulated to the end. Reply Back to Top |
| I recently had one of those games with my franchise. I had to have Tim Hudson in as a pinch hitter at one point. I think I had 4-5 hits. Eventually won with a bomb by Freddie Freeman in the 22nd or something stupid like that. Nothing like throwing a 2 hit shutout in to the 8th and giving up a HR and have the game take another 2 hours. | i gave in and moved my fricking sliders for hitting. I started out hot and was batting in the mid .300's. Then all of a sudden, i couldn't buy a hit and my average fell to .189. frick that. Reply Back to Top |
quote: i see what you're getting at and that would frustrate me also, but you do know that for a 'good' sacrifice bunt, you should be bunting down the 1st base line.. i don't know if that'll make a difference, but in a real baseball game, in order to move the guy from 2nd to 3rd, you should puch it down the 3rd base line Reply Back to Top |
| I've come to the conclusion that the slump thing is going to happen whenever the computer decides it should. my CFer started out the year really hot, was batting .400+ then went on a 10-12 game slump and the average evened out about .285. It doesn't matter if you guess the correct pitch/location and time your swing perfectly, sometimes you'll just always fail...it's maddening. I literally have to force myself not to swing at a ball unless I have the correct pitch + location guessed. If I don't do that, I'm sure to strike out about 1 in 4 at bats. I still can't take walks to save my life though. Reply Back to Top |
| for points, any "sacrifice bunt" (where I actually get out) results in a "good at bat" it doesn't matter where the bunt goes as long as the runners advance and I'm thrown out. The game just applies the rules of "weak hit" thus giving an OK at bat to any and all bunts that you reach base with. it's really quite dumb. Reply Back to Top |
quote: even so, you still have to discipline yourself to make sure it's a strike before swinging...and that little nanosecond will throw off everything and you will not hit it perfect...maddening! i guess low fastball all the time, and 7-10 times its low in the dirt Reply Back to Top |
| The other day Jordan Zimmerman of the Nats was mowing me down with high fastballs. I cannot do anything with a high fastball. Reply Back to Top |
| I feel we should play a game- we'd probably both have no hitters going into the 15th b/c I do the exact same thing Reply Back to Top |
quote: i can't do anything with a slider. These AA pitchers are all all-stars. Starts out over the middle of the plate and breaks out. Miss every time Reply Back to Top |
| What mechanic y'all use for hitting? I was always a fan of the zone hitting where you move the yellow oval to the pitch location. That shite got hard as hell over the last two seasons, so I decided to go with strictly timing yesterday. Reply Back to Top |
| I do the stride, but let the yellow oval stay in place. I tried doing both, but my mind can't move both sticks, in the correct time, plus recognize the type of pitch throw along with whether it's a ball/strike and if i should swing or not This post was edited on 4/23 at 11:56 am Reply Back to Top |
| I use the yellow oval (the default I guess). I hate the joystick only aspect of hitting/fielding. I can't check swings with the joystick nearly as well as I can with a button, and I check swing a lot since my recognition isn't there, lol. I like the oval because I can guess my low fastball and if it's not that, just slide the oval to the top half of the strike zone and wait. Reply Back to Top |
| I feel like it's not the game, though. It's me being not good. Reply Back to Top |
| shhh, it makes me feel better to think of it in terms of the game hating me instead of me being miserably bad Reply Back to Top |
| There is one game in particular that really made me realize just how bad the hitting points system is at times. My first at bat I had a 6 or 7 pitch groundout to the shortstop and I got a 16 or 17 points for a good at bat. Second at bat I lined a first pitch fastball to left center for a double and got 5 points for an OK at bat. In my third at bat (this is the one that I don't get at all) a hit and run is called and I double to right center driving in the run but I got 0 points for a poor at bat. I think they put way too much emphasis on working the count. A 6 pitch groundout gets more points than a 1 or 2 pitch groundout even if you jump on a first pitch fast ball thats cock high. | Agreed, I think it's a combo of working the count (which I'm terrible at) and hitting the ball squarely (aka hard). I've done the same as you with first pitch doubles, or homeruns and received "ok" at bat or "good at bat" (for a homerun) when normally those would be good/great at bats had the count been 2-0 or 3-1. I did once have a 10+ pitch at bat where I eventually singled or something stupid and got a 40 point great at bat. I would also point out that in rare instances that a throwing error is made on a bunt attempt I would have been safe on, I'll get a poor at bat simply because there was an error that the game assumes I would have been out on, when it was clear I was safe easily.
