re: Steel Toe Boots Guys at work love Tony llama and double h. They don't make them in my size so I get twisted steel. Most comfortable boots I have ever owned. Everyone has problems with their soles coming apart, I just reglue them every so often. Wolverines have almost zero break in time, but don't tend to last if you are doing heavy work. Red wings are the exact opposite. Longer break in time but last much longer. Reply Back to Top

Since time is an issue, I would agree with some of the others here and suggest going to Academy and trying what they have. I purchased some Red Wing King Toe from there that are pretty comfortable for boots. They are lightweight as well due to the non-metallic design. Cost was around $110. But if you want comfort and can afford to wait a few days, get a pair of the KEEN industrial steel toes. I bought a pair of the "Atlanta" for working in a warehouse and they were by far the most comfortable that I have worn. (Still wear em around town on the weekends when I don't have to) Reply Back to Top

Red wings have a tighter fit and less room on the top of the foot than most so I couldn't put insoles in mine. They are comfortable though. I have a pair that is a few years old that I always wear if I know I'm going to be crawling around in piperacks. Reply Back to Top
quote: They don't last. Grating chews up their sole and the cushioning in the heel is just pockets of air so when they wear down to that level it allows water to seep in when other boots with solid soles would not. Reply Back to Top |
Just want to preface that the work I do might be in worse conditions than most so the boots people are mentioning might do well for all of you. Hot pipes, grating, climbing scaffolds, and crawling into tight spots will really speed up the death toll on boots. Reply Back to Top
My wolverines lasted great when pipe fitting in Belle chasse. Working with a torch all day and welding out in the sand under the sun, on barges etc. Reply Back to Top
You were in live units? Reply Back to Top
I wear badass Carhart steel toeds. But you can go to cabela's and buy some..I got a pair of lace up steel toed boots for like 40 bucks there. Reply Back to Top
What do you mean live units? Reply Back to Top

My wolverines, mentioned above we're the durashock. They were pretty abused also. Along with everything mentioned, they have nice scars from being in snow then torched dry when I worked in Wyoming last year. Not to mention the alky in new jersey. Like I said, those $80 boots lasted longer than my $200 ariats. Go with comfort. You're going to wear them out and need new ones when that time comes. There are protective measures like rubber caps and silicone spray to increase the life. Reply Back to Top
quote: Units that are running. Instead of shutting the entire unit down, they just blind off a line to preform work. This causes a lot of hot areas and hot surfaces since the rest of the equipment in the area is "live" and going. Not to mention the different chemicals. | I built cranes. I'll post a pic in a minute. Not your typical crane. Reply Back to Top |
On top of that, no group has a consensus on the best, longest lasting, or. Most comfortable. I just made up my mind to only worry about comfort and replace them when they stop being comfortable. frick the cost. I spend more time in them than my bed, or my vehicle, so they have to feel good Reply Back to Top
Agreed. Reply Back to Top
i wear wolverines also and they last me about 1 year, maybe a little longer .how long do they last you. Reply Back to Top
quote: I cringe at the thought. 1) When i get up I want to be able to slip my boots on 2) I don't want my laces to come undone and go through chemicals, mud, etc. 3) when I get home I want to kick my boots off. Are you a rigger by any chance? Reply Back to Top Refresh |
