| Louisiana Hayride - a question for Shreveport-type people Posted by Kafka Are there any plans to try to do something with the Louisiana Hayride name? Perhaps a Louisiana Hayride Music Festival... I always thought LPB should have tried to set up a LH TV show a la Austin City Limits. The Municipal Auditorium still exists according to Wikipedia -- are concerts still held there? ![]() Reply Back to Top |
| Don't know of any plans to use the Hayride name. I love the festival idea, though. If you'll finance it, I'll book the artists. As far as Municipal, it's had some renovation and they still have events there occasionally. I saw Seinfeld there a couple of weeks ago and it was the first time I had been in the building in about 15 years. I think there are a few other events scheduled there in the coming months. | I wish I knew Jack White on a personal level. He sounds like the kind of dude to want to bring something back like the Louisiana Hayride. Reply Back to Top |
| i bet that was some special times back then. Sad that places like that dont last. Reply Back to Top |

| There was an attempt at a Louisiana Hayride revival 10-15 years ago, or maybe a little longer ago than that. There was a radio show for a while. It might work now, with the renewed interest in roots music. My mom saw Elvis at the Hayride when she was a teenager. She wasn't all that impressed. Back in the day, there was a bit of a cultural divide and the better class of people didn't listen to "that" kind of music. Reply Back to Top |
| I would love for them to come back with a weekly show and live radio broadcast. Reply Back to Top |
| The Municipal Auditorium is still alive and well as far as performances go. There is a small museum that hosts the history of the building/hayride. There is also a group the does ghost hunts in the building It's a cool old building that's now in a pretty sad part of town. They still have events there, it's just not what it used to be. | "Better Class?" Holy shit, hoss. You saying your mama was uppity? You just never know. The movie Walk The Line kind of made me see more of the humanity behind the music scene, in a way. Was it really Elvis that got them hyped up on speed? Reply Back to Top |
I didn't know there was a statue of Leadbelly in Shreveport: Either this white dude is huge or the statue is less than life size: ![]() Reply Back to Top |
| They still have the James Burton Guitar festival there. They didn't have it last year b/c he was renovating his studio across the street. My dad's band has played there a few times and I got to go backstage. It was quite an awesome feeling sitting in those old dressing rooms. Reply Back to Top |
| There's a guy who owns the name 'Louisiana Hayride' and there was occasionally a 'Hayride' special or get together. A Hayride festival would be a great idea. A weekly TV special wouldn't work. I don't think there's enough support in S'port nor the financing for it. I could see them doing it quarterly and if it wasn't filmed at the Auditorium, then don't even attempt to do it. | I'd make the trip for an annual festival or some of the quarterly shows. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
