re: Here's why I don't think this Johnny Jones stuff has legs...quote: JMH(and maybe wrong)O I take this as TJ knowing the good ole boys have wanted one of dales boys for years and this is just his subtle way of blaming the establishment, due to non support of the coach, wont allow anyone except one of their guys (ie JJ) succeed. The only reason their voices have been heard for the past 2 years is because of failure by Trent. Those guys definitely want influence in the program but above all else they want the tigers to win. If trent had kept winning they would have buddied up to him to keep close to the program. He was stand offish and lost therefore they ostracized him. quote: I wan't being argumentative with you; I just don't understand why trent would make that comment. If it was the AD, then my comment stands. If trent wanted to endorse his friend, Jones, he should have said the next top guy on our list. Reply Back to Top |
| I disagree Adam. I think TJ had many opportunities to respond to when Big Collis injected himself into the conversation to the detriment of the perception of the program and he didn't. We can balk at TJ's coaching ability, but he's always been a high character guy that takes accountability. This angle wouldn't appear to correspond to that and I can't dismiss how he's been throughout his career just because he is supporting Jones. quote: I absolutely agree. Once again, as it was pre-Trent hire, you'll see Collis self-appoint himself the school's mouth-piece as our resident press largely too timid/lazy to get at the real story themselves will run to Collis for sound bites and quotes. And Dale will be willing to let Collis do his talking, at least on this. I know there's still alot of folks whose nostalgia for the best days of Dale and would have no qualms with it, cause I hear alot of that when the subject came up Re: Trent's status. But I think most in the know and with the means feel like I do...that we can do better. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I agree. I don't see why these guys should have any say in this hire and I'm still not totally in the camp that they do. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Yeah like I said I maybe (and probably am) wrong its just really odd to me that 1. Trent would be buddies with Jones seeing as everything he has done the past four years has been to distance himself from the collis and dale crew (even down to the point of not bringing on assistants like Livingston who would legitimately help) 2. be big enough buddies to say that hes the "only" person to fix it. I mean anyone can see theres easily some legitimate options out there as good or much better than Jones the best thing about jones is that hes a decent option and is "one of Dales boys" so in essence hes a unifying hire. For me the only explanation that I can come up with is TJ took that last part a step further to insinuate that theres a faction that wont allow anyone except for their guy to turn it around This post was edited on 4/8 at 2:21 pm Reply Back to Top |
quote: I'm with you TA. There are some pretty big egos there and they'll make alot of noise and make it as unconfortable as possible for those really making the decisions. But this is an opportunity here if the powers that be have the courage and passion to get beyond it. Reply Back to Top |
quote: yeah that's a good point. quote: yeah, again, I agree. In short, based on my last post and your current post, both seem plausible. TJ was never in that circle though so maybe he really does just have a good relationship with Jones and Dale, and maybe not with Collis? I personally think Collis needs to just go away. I have no doubt we'll need him with the Martin kid, and I know he benefitted us with Garrett, Tyrus, Big Baby, and Taz, but it's come to a point where he appears to have more of a concern for where he sits in all of this than where the program sits. TJ may have had his faults on the coaching front, but as I stated, he was a first-class guy as far as his actions off the court. This post was edited on 4/8 at 2:24 pm Reply Back to Top |
quote:Me too. quote:I think his influence Re: recruiting ended with his sons eligibility. My perception of Collis was always that while guys like Macklin and Blanton asked Trent, "what can I do to help" Collis was more "this is what you need to do" and that never sat well with a Type A like Trent. quote: I agree 100%. I wanted him to succeed because of it but I can't say that I'm disappointed at the turn of events because with J-Ham leaving it didn't look good. It's an opportunity now to energize a dying program. quote: He's not leaving New Mexico. Basketball is #1 there and it's #3 at LSU. The only way I see him leaving for LSU is if y'all double his salary to $2.2 mil per year Reply Back to Top |
quote: Which a number we would likely be willing to pay, but not for Steve Alford. Drew would be a different story, but I don't see him leaving Baylor. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Yeah, that should work out well. Allowing the new TCU coach (whom I would guess is leaving here w/ somewhat of an axe to grind) to name who the new LSU coach should be. That should work out about as well as it did 26 years ago, when the new Florida AD (Arnsparger) named who HIS successor should be as LSU's HFC (Archer). Reply Back to Top |

| My only question about Johnny Jones is does he have a want? Reply Back to Top |
| We aren't state. We could easily pay 2.2 Reply Back to Top |
