The question everyone is asking though is WHY game of thrones isn't available through conventional methods?

Because releasing it immediately after it airs through different mediums undermines HBO's entire business model.

They need to change their business model.

Exactly.

Either make an attempt to protect yourself from piracy or don't bitch about it.

It's not a question of self discipline here though

It's someone else who is making that choice for you.

I buy as much of my stuff legally as possible.

But you are insane if you don't think HBO has a stick up their arse about this.

They want complete control like they had before, and frick thR market shifting towards consumer freedom.

Case in point: if GoT isn't available for Netflix DVD yet. That is inexcusable and absurd.

I would be willing to pay a premium on ITunes... As much as 5 bucks an episode.

But they don't want to lose that direct control, so they hold it close to the vest to the point of hurting their own business and then they whine about piracy

I'm not going to debate the morality of piracy on here yet again, but the example you used couldn't be more biased to support your agenda.

HBO produces its original programming in-house. The reason they do this is to entice more paying viewers to its channels. It's not like Warner Brothers, which produces a movie to be exhibited for a number of different platforms.

It seems like your analogy would be akin to justifying people steal Final Cut Pro because Apple makes it difficult for PC users to fully utilize its proprietary software.

To that I offer a counter point: AMC gets their original shows onto digital mediums very fast.

Within 12 hours you can buy it on iTunes

Sorry, that excuse only works for HBO to a point...

That's why I said HBO was a terrible argument to use in support of piracy. HBO's business model is clearly different than the majority of broadcast networks.

That seems a circular argument.

They act the way they do, because they act the way they do?

Why is HBO's business model so special?

Hell, Starz felt okay getting in a contract with Netflix

It's probably only because of HBO trying to hold onto the old school system that they let it lapse.

And AMC is struggling their asses off to finance their original programming and are cutting budgets left and right.

HBO could change their business model, like some are suggesting as if it would be easy to do, but then they probably couldn't afford to make niche quality original programming like your precious Game of Thrones.

HBO might as well just turn to making reality shows on the cheap like every other cable channel.

You're not entitled to it just because you want it.

I want a million dollars.

You could have watched GoT a long time ago. Subscribe to HBO.

No. Their business plan is in place to protect their assets. There is little money in streaming content. By channeling viewers of their quality programming, HBO gains subscribers to its business, which allows them to continue to create high-quality programming and sustain their business.

Keep in mind that you are comparing basic cable channels (AMC) to premium channels (HBO).

You know I don't feel bad at all about stealing from Hollywood. frick them. They'd just take my money and give it to Obama or some other Democrat who's against me.

I feel the same about them as I do spending my money with the UAW.

I get HBO on basic cable where I live. Does the cable monolopy just roll the price of HBO into the bill?
